Marble Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 hey- if anyone has any good ideas on how to get rid of skunk fumes on lady please let me know. i let the dogs out and then went out to call them and immediately smelled skunk........then what do you know but the dogs came back and lady got herself sprayed really bad. the only good thing was that it is raining and she was wet so her fur probably did not absorb as much as it would have had she been dry. i drenched her in tomato juice and then shampooed her but if you have any other help please let me know as she still reeks. dogs.....gottta love them....at least dresden didn't get sprayed too. behle Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 Aha! At last something I have experience with. Ben, our saint, got shot by a skunk about two years ago. There is a home made cure for skunk odor based on a chemical reaction. We found it on the internet. Here is the recipe: One quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide One-fourth cup baking soda One teaspoon liquid soap You mix all this together and saturate the fur. Let it sit for just a couple of minutes so the chemical reaction can take place and then rinse it out thoroughly. Follow up with a mild doggie shampoo. THIS REALLY WORKS! Skunk essence is made of sulfur molecules. The materials in the recipe, when mixed together, form an alkaline peroxide, which chemically changes the skunk essence into sulfonic acid; a completely odorless chemical. The soap breaks down the oily skunk essence, making it more susceptible to the other chemicals. This cure was developed by chemist Paul Krebaum of Lisle, Illinois. Even though I don't know you, THANK YOU PAUL! :iloveyou: Quote

Marble Posted February 28, 2003 Author Posted February 28, 2003 hey- thanks for all the help, lady smells almost 100% better now.......the only thing that smells is her muzzle because i didn't want to get stuff in her eyes and nose.....her eyes aren't running today either so that's good. anyway, thanks very much! Cheetah Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 hmm...I wish I had anti-skunk recipe when Roxie *almost* got sprayed. A skunk went off at her in our backyard, but I think it just missed her since our backyard smelled a lot worse than her. However, she had this mildy skunky odor that was really annoying! We bought some expensive skunk smell remover crap from the store that was only partially effective. Took forever for the smell to fade away! Quote
