Guest Anonymous Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 Well, I just found out that a co-workers 13 yr old female dachshund has transition cell carcinoma (cancer) in the bladder. They've been dealing with her having a bladder infection for a few months and finally the Dr thought maybe a biopsy should be done. Came back on Tuesday with cancer. It's already spread through out her body. Poor Sniffles. My co-worker is very sad...especilly since it's his 14 yr old daughter's best friend. She can't remember ever living with out Sniffles. She was so upset by this that she made herself sick and ended up missing school because of it. They are giving Sniffles 4 - 12 mths to live. Quote
Carolk9s Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 Thats very sad, my heart goes out to them. Losing their precious pal this way, how terrible. Quote
gooeydog Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 I've read online about some people having success at slowing cancer by giving the dogs certain diets and supplements (don't know much about it though, or if it would work in this case)... if they're interested in having her around a little longer maybe they could check into that?? Of course, 13 yrs is a good long life, and maybe they just want to let her go as easily as possible for everyone involved... :( Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 She is losing her hearing and eyesight as well. I think her time is just coming.... And, when they got her, she was only 4 weeks old. They wanted her gone at 1 week (Philippines)....poor baby. She was so small that she could fit in their shirt pocket. Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 It is very sad.   Quote
Pumpkin the musher Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 It was about this time last year when my 1st Pom was diagnosed with Lymphoma- her name was Pumpkin, and she was a beautiful red sable who loved to go for walks in the woods, catch frisbees, and ride in my jacket or on the sled when I trained my sled dogs. Her favorite food was carrots and raw pumpkin (She was named Pumpkin because I brought her home from the breeder on Halloween!) The cancer was fairly advanced and there was'nt much to do but wait and try to make her last months happy and pain free. She lasted until late June- I was hoping that she would just drift off in her sleep, but that was not to be- we had to have her put down. The vet was wonderful and compassionate, but my husband and I cryed all day, and I couldn't go to work for a week. She was our very best friend, and although we have a new little ankle biter named Cricket, I still cry when I look at Pumpkin's scrapbook, or talk about her, like now. I miss you shnoozle...
