bk_blue Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 Initially I was looking at this site to find dogs that looked like BK (and yeah, I am finally convinced he has a lot of Border Collie in him!). Zeke's story was the first one I clicked on cos he looked so cute: http://www.greatlakesbcrescue.org/Rescues8.htm It is a fact that when you are involved in rescue long enough, you see everything. Little Zeke, young and as sweet as he is, is another one of those poor unfortunate dogs who suffered silently until a helping angel came his way. In Zeke's case, it was the Animal Control. Zeke's owners not only made the mistake of getting a Border Collie, they made the mistake of thinking they should even consider owning a dog. Before little Zeke was even a year old, his life was in danger at the hands of the the very people who should have loved him and kept him safe. They didn't want him anymore. Rather than find him a home, seek out a Border Collie Rescue or even take him to a shelter, they decided to slowly starve him to death. Eventually, the only thing left for Zeke to eat was his own feces - and his owners seemed to think this was appropriate. He is still to thin, but fortunately for him, he loves his treats. While in Barb's loving care, Zeke has begun to blossom into the wonderful little Border Collie that he was meant to be.... What a sweetie... and he looks like Blitz too lol there are other stories at the rescue site but Zeke struck me as being particularly poignant. Anyhoo just wanted to share! Quote
yellowlabsrule Posted February 7, 2003 Posted February 7, 2003 He is so cute! Looks sorta like this dog: Ginger Dog Black Labrador Retriever,Border Collie Mix Size: Medium Age: Young Sex: Female I.D: Ginger03 Notes: I LOVE to snuggle on your lap and give kisses all over your face. My foster Mom, Wende tells everyone that I NEED a job and a securely fenced yard so that I can be safe and not bored. I myself have a few things that I want in my new family, such as; 1) Children: over the age of 8 years since I am very much the puppy and I love to jump and say "HELLO" and playing fetch is a MUST!!! 2) Fenced Yard: a large playground for my never-ending Puppy and Adult antics 3) Other dogs: a playmate for those times my Human playmates must go and do Human things Now, that is not much of a list, is it??? I am VERY easy to please and all the above are negotiable with me. Ginger is a fun loving dog that rides well in the car, but a harness or dog barrier would be a good idea. Leash skills and house manners need work, which Basic Obedience will start to address. She needs to have direction and a family that is committed to working with her as she grows into the fine young Lady she will be. She needs to have lots of love, tempered with training and guidance to channel her energy into positive areas. She is not food nor toy aggressive and loves to have a good bone, pig ear or ???Shoe???, oops, forgot to put those away!!!! Please remember that Ginger is a cross of TWO ACTIVE breeds and MUST have a direction to be led into. She has exhibited that she is very smart and eager to learn. She completed with her previous owner an 8 week Puppy Kindergarten, but those learned skills need to be freshened in her mind. She does sit and lay down on command, when the spirit moves her, sort of like a small child. Quote
bk_blue Posted February 8, 2003 Author Posted February 8, 2003 oh cute!!! :D Are you thinking about getting her? Quote
yellowlabsrule Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 I've thought about getting every dog in the world! This one's a ways away though. :( Quote
bk_blue Posted February 8, 2003 Author Posted February 8, 2003 :( oh well there are always a million (literally) other dogs that need loving homes. Actually I have a photo of BK where he looks eerily similar to Ginger. Will scan and post sometime. I don't know, I would find it impossible to just give up a pet for adoption. I don't know how anyone does it. Quote
