Luka-pop Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 What do I do!? After his dinner, Luka wandered off into a different room for about 2 minutes. 2 hours later, I went into the room that Luka was in before, and found the bag of food, open! He must haver ipped through the bag. How much do you think he could have consumed? I don't want him getting sick or all of a sudden gaining weight. What should I do? Cut down on his food for a while? He's a lab/pointer mix, so he's a candidate for GDV and for weight gain. Quote
behle Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 Hmm! Was Luka in the room for only two minutes? If so, it's doubtful he could have consumed enough to hurt him. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Put the food where he can't get to it. We keep our "kibble" in our laundry room in a secure rubbermaid container. Out of our boy's reach. Hope your guy is ok! :) Quote
Luka-pop Posted February 3, 2003 Author Posted February 3, 2003 He doesn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort, but he did eliminate (#2) in the house just now, about 1.5 hours after his dinner, half an hour after ripping open the bag of food. He's fully housetrained and hasn't ever done this unless he was left alone. I just don't want to find him 10 pounds heavier tomorrow morning  ! Quote
behle Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 Well, it sounds like Luka will take care of that excess food on his own! :o    Quote
courtnek Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 He'll be ok Luka, dont worry. He overfed himself and paid for it - sometimes that's the best treatment....He cant gain additional weight like that, it would take days of overfeeding to put on extra pounds. and ten pounds would take more than days....weeks most likely. Put his food somewhere where he cant get it. I know this is a dog forum, but I had to give up one of my cats because the doctor (wrongly!!) said my son was allergic to him. My friend took him in. She soon found out why I had "baby locks" on my cabinets. That cat could open/get into/ escape from any normal lock ever created. If you left a window open he would let himself out. I had the locks before I had the baby!! She put his food into a closet, and came home to find the bag torn open and food all over... When her children were born, the locks were already in place. You couldnt stop Isis from getting what he wanted..... Quote
Luka-pop Posted February 3, 2003 Author Posted February 3, 2003 I put his food in a big can. He had diarrhea today, but other than that, I think he'll be fine. If I put locks on my cabinets, it'll be about 10 years ahead of my baby (I'm only 15)! You can never be too prepared! Thanks everyone! Quote
