Kiger Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 Kato had his foot operated on last Thursday and the bandage lasted until today when it finally started slipping down his leg. I took him back to the vet and they put a new one on that lasted until I got back to the waiting room where it slid all the way off. They stuck another one on and it seemed okay, but it just came off again. So I rewrapped it but the vetwrap stuff I got was not the 3M brand and not as clingy so you guessed it... I had to run to the store and get an ACE bandage made for people, but it seems to be working for now. These were all taped to his leg and everything. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 Awe! Did I miss a post somewhere? What was wrong with Kato's foot? Is he doing okay now? Quote
courtnek Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 The Ace is the way to go - providing he doesnt chew it off. The taping never sticks and it all unravels..... You cant use really secure tape because pulling it off pulls out the fur as well. The Ace should work. If he starts to chew you may need a "collar" though.... what happened to his leg??? Quote

Cheetah Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 I had the same experience! A year ago, Roxie had the same problem with her splint/bandage, it kept on falling off and she chewed on it a little...I did the same thing, bought athletic tape stuff from the drug store and it kinda worked temporarily. I also found that sometimes the people wrapped the bandage really tight and it stayed on...and other times they did a bad job and the splint fell off within a day! I was so happy when Roxie got her splint off (after 8 weeks) - it was a real nuisance! So...what did Kiger have surgery for? (as everyone wants to know!) Quote
Luka-pop Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 Yeah, what did he have surgery for? I use vet wrap for the horses' legs at the barn, but I guess this is a dog we're talking about... They come in pwitty colors - blue, purple, red, green... Quote
Kiger Posted February 2, 2003 Author Posted February 2, 2003 He had a cut on his paw. I tried ointment for a week, but it kept growing this "thing". It looked like a corn or a wart and it wasn't getting any better so I had it removed. My vet sent it out for biopsy to see if it is a histiocytoma or just a corn. It was healing up really nice until he got his bandage off. I can tell he was licking at it. I hope it won't get infected now. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 awe, poor baby! :( I sure hope it heels up nicely! Quote
Marble Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 i know this is probably crazy but when dresden had her rear dewclaws removed she would not leave her bandages alone and kept pulling them off. i finally ended up wrapping a gauze pad on, then the atheletic tape and then finally, on top of the athletic tape (so it would not stick to her fur) i taped an inch wide stip of duck tape(duct ? the hard core grey stuff.......). this worked really well. good luck with him, hope he heals fast :) Quote
