Names and Crates

hi! My family has adopted a Pembroke Welsh Corgi...we're bringing him home a week from this Saturday. In the meantime, we're trying to think of a name. Does anyone have any ideas? He's a little boy (if this hasn't become clear) who's almost all red, with only white on his feet and belly. Also, this is the first time we'll have had a dog of his size (all our previous dogs have been large breeds and the crate we have is, I'm sure much too big for a corgi) so we're not sure what size of crate to get him. Can anyone help out with this? Thanks much! :D

If you're worried about the crate size as it pertains to housebreaking, you could buy a divider panel for the crate you have, much cheaper than buying a new crate. Then as your pup matures, you could remove the divider panel to give him more room to stretch out when he has to be in the crate.
As far as his name, be patient. Are you asking about a registered name or call name or both? His personality will emerge as he adjusts to his new home, that may give you the perfect name idea. Of course providing us with a photo of your pup will get you an avalanche of name ideas! 8)

i'm not an expert on crates or anything and as carol said a lot of the size probably has to do with housetraining concerns. BUT i have had my ACD mix (she's about 45 lbs right now) in a HUGE english mastiff sized crate since she was about four months old. my brother gave it to me for free :) and she has never once in five and a half months had an accident in her crate.

here are a couple sites that i found helpful when looking for a name for dresden.

What breeds where the previouse dogs you had, how big is the crate? Corgis aren't that small, their bodies are nearly lab sized its just they have those short little legs :D . The dog should be able to sit, stand, lie down, and turn around in the crate, no more, no play space - if you are using the crate to housetrain. If its just for a safe containment area, travelling, retreat space for dog etc, having a larger crate should be no problem.

Choosing a name is a very personal thing to do and I'd say don't rush in, wait and see what his personality will be and a name might just come rushing out as though it was always his name.

My recent pup Buster got his name indirectly from the kids, we brought him home and as the days went on we could hear the kids say "Hey Buster!" when the pup was being naughty/playful............so that's how he got his name!

Sorry it took so long for me to reply, I was at my dad's and his computer was down. Thanks for all the replies! We have figured out the crated situation. We are still not sure about names...we're really just coming up with a list of them right now so we are able to name puppy-boy fairly soon after he comes home (only 5 more days!) . So here's what we've come up with so far: Baci (kiss in Italian)
Pico (Little in Italian)
Winstin
Goliath
Jesse James
Foxfire
I think you're all right though, I think it'll be easier when he's actually here...but for now, we just keep coming up with some we like...we're going to look up some Welsh names and see if we can find a fitting name that would reflect his origins a little. I'll let you know what we end up naming him after this weekend! And I'll try to figure out how to post a picture once we have some developed.

We're going to pick him up today! We leave in two hours. His unofficial name is Micah---just have to make sure it fits. I thought I'd post before we left because I probably won't want to be on the internet later today 8) .

He's home! we just love him...and I guess I was just kidding about Micah, we ended up naming him Bacio...Italian for kiss. And I am actually a member of dogomania...dandylion23, but I forgot my password, and can't get the retrieval to work. I'll post pictures as soon as I can! :D

I finally figured out my password! So anyhow, lol, courtnek, you did pretty good...i don't know if those two proununciations are different or not, but we call him Bah-chee-oh ...or when it comes out fast it's more of a "Bach-yo"... He's an absolute angel, I'm in love :D lol, he likes the snow a little more than I do though...but so far he has been a very good boy, he could pretty much advertise crates, he likes his so well...goes in there on his own and chews on a toy with the door wide open. He's not quite sure what to make of the cats yet though, but they're not quite sure what they think of him either. We start obedience classes in two weeks, and Bacio doesn't know it, but I can't wait to start. He's the smartest little dog I know (and yes, I know I'm probably a little biased) , and so much fun to play/cuddle with. I haven't had any pictures developed yet, but once I do, I'll post 'em, he's a real cutie!
