Hi,

I'm new here - nice site.

Im thinking about taking on a third dog. (we have two rescue mongrels in our average sized family house with average garden and average 2.4 kids) As you can imagine I’ve got my hands full at the moment what with the trying to share my attention and time amongst the kids and dogs.

Do you think its fair on the kids or the dogs if we introduce another member of the family???

thanks for your thoughts

Hi Wondering (WELCOME) Hope you have many happy times here...lots of nice people who can help and advise you!

As you have your hands full already with your dogs and children (Im not going to say dont have another dog) but if you think you can cope with another one then i would say go ahead....but if you think that you wouldnt be able to give the attention that the dogs needs...as well as your big family, then i would say wait a bit longer.

I dont have any children at the moment but i know they can be hard work as i have minded my nieces as babies trying to give them the attention as well as my dogs...but then i only had 2 dogs, now i have 3.

What ever you decide!

I wish you all the best.

However im sure others here will be able to put you on the right track.

That's great that you're so devoted to dogs and your kids. I think another dog would be a nice addition, as long as you're goint to have the time to commit to all of them equally. Maybe an already housetrained dog or a dog with some manners already would be better. On the other hand, maybe you should get what you, your kids, and you dogs would all get along with.

GOOD LUCK & WELCOME TO THE SITE! :D

Wanted to say Welcome.
Can't really help you as I have three large dogs and no kids. But good luck and it sounds like you have a huge heart for kids and dogs. That's great! Let us know what you decide.

Hi JW and welcome. 8)

I think taking on a third dog is a good idea if you can afford the time to spend settling him/her in with the rest of your family, possible training and manners, and the money for food, vaccinations etc. (good on you for going with the rescues btw!!) IME growing up with animals was great and I bet your kids love them too and would love a third addition. As long as you get a dog which suits your lifestyle you'll be sweet. :D Please let us know what you decide!!!
