Guest Anonymous Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 I need help quick. A lady I work with has a 9 yr old Golden Retriever named Dusty. Dusty needs a home NOW. Dusty has been with his family since a pup. Dusty has had a few problems in the last couple of days (runs) and is going to the vet to be checked out and get up to date on shots. Dusty's family has recently bought an RV and travel a lot. Dusty does NOT like to travel there fore the neighbors take care of him more than they do at times. Dusty is great with kids. Dusty is NOT all that active. He went outside the other day to meet the neighbor's new pup and got scared of it (active pup) and went back inside. Dusty is scared of rustling noises. If his owners bring in groceries (he hears the bags) he'll run and hide. He is also afraid of the vacuum. He is NOT afraid of thunder, though. Dusty is NOT altered...He has never figured out what to do with those things under his tail, other than to chase them. Dusty gets along great with cats. He'll lick a black cat brown, says his owner. Dusty is in fine health other than this poo issue that is being looked at. Dusty will be PTS by early next week if not given a new home. Dusty is in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. PLEASE HELP. I KNOW THIS DOG AND HE IS WONDERFUL. They do not want to take him to the shelter as they want him in a GOOD HOME. He is an inside dog and only goes out to go potty. He has no desire to go outside otherwise. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN. Quote

Because they are not home enough now that they have an RV. Since he's been sick the last few days, I think that is what got the ball really rolling. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 [quote name='sashagirl'] I can not fathom how somebody could do this to a dog that they have had for so long... I just can't comprehend. Just THINKING of the idea of Sasha or Felony not being with me anymore, for any reason, makes me sick to my stomach!!! :x I know. I'm right there with ya. I could tell she was embarrassed to tell me about this, but I know she came to me because she really wants him to have a good home and doesn't want him to be put down.... Still, it's so selfish that I can't stand it. I mean, you have no IDEA what a "perfect" dog he is...already housetrained (other than these accidents recently), mellow, loving, great with kids and cats....Like Yellow Dog from Funny Farm. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 Oh, I have given her the names and websites of a fostering place in town and a no kill shelter about 45 minutes away. Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 I have a foster for him!!!! I need to get off this computer for the night but details will come tomorrow morning....at least the little ones I have so far!! DUSTY IS GOING TO LIVE!!!  Quote

Hobbit Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 Gigi > good ending for a seemingly wonderful dog. Good work and big pat on the back. :P Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 You have NO IDEA how good I feel! Here's the scoop. I called the foster lady (Michelle) last night. She lives about 90 miles north of here in my home town. My sister recommended her (they went to high school together). Found out she ONLY fosters Goldens! She works with this organization http://www.ragom.org/ She has two of her own and one foster right now so she can't take Dusty, but she will get him placed with in the week. There are 4 other Goldens waiting. She wanted to get him tonight. She is going to the Twin Cities this weekend for a dog show and wanted to take Dusty and her foster with. Dusty can't go cuz he still hasn't been to the vet for his bowls. They weren't sure if they were going to find a home for him or put him down, that's why he hasn't been treated yet. Dusty's mom will be in to work in about 1/2 hour. I'll let you know if I hear more. Again, she had to talk to her hubby about this first. I'm not worried, though. Michelle wants me to be the liaison for her. I don't think she really wants to deal with Dusty's owner much unless she HAS to as she is very upset for the reasoning behind this. I'm very pissed about it, but at least I've done something to help, in Dusty's benefit! Quote
Carolk9s Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 Good work Gigi, Dusty may well owe his life to you. There is NO reason, NO circumstance, NO change in my life that would make me voluntarily give up ANY of my dogs. There is NO excuse for the people giving up Dusty. I'd feel a wee bit different if they planned to keep him or have him cared for as long as it took to find him a home but to say he's gotta be gone by XXX or he's dead. shaking my head in disgust while ADMIRING GIGI for stepping in and saving this dogs life! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 Thanks Carol. I'm over here beaming with happiness that at least his life will be saved! I emailed Michelle last night to let her know Dusty would NOT be going with her to Minneapolis and HIGHLY commended her for being a foster. I commend ANYONE who fosters! Quote

Just let the old dog suffer a bit before his fate is decided. Quote
Carolk9s Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 I know you are Gigi, cause you are a person WHO CARES! Thank DOG for people like you! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 You are making my blush! I just wish they would have thought of DUSTY before they decided to buy an RV that he does NOT do good in....they knew he doesn't do good in cars yet they still do this. He's NINE. It's not like he's going to be around that much longer. Couldn't they have waited a few more years for Dusty's sake???????? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 Mei-Mei napisał(a):How could you ask them to wait Gigi...after all they should go RVing as soon as possible! So what if it might have cost their dog his life? :x Oh I know! I'm furious, but I still have to remain calm since I work with her and she can be a backstabber if you are not careful... They have FOR SURE decided to have him fostered. He will be going to the vet on Monday for his bowls, updated shots, bath and grooming. Once the vet clears him to be OK around other dogs, he will go. At least now he'll get attention and loving. I think he's "just a dog" in their eyes and they don't have time for him anymore. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 And, at least I've educated them on this as well. They thought their only options were to find a new home on their own, take him to the Humane Shelter, or put him down. They had no idea there were No Kill Shelters or Foster programs out there. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 Dusty has a new home in Moline, IL with a 3 yr old Weim/lab mix and a 10 yr old golden, and 2 cats! I'm very happy for him. I just hope he makes it through the changes OK. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 Talked to Dusty's owner on a smoke break and she started crying about having him go, but she thinks it's for the best since they are very busy and never home.............. Quote
Carolk9s Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 So did you feel a mixture of sympathy and disgust or just one of those two emotions? 8) SO glad to hear Dusty has a new home lined up, where IS that saluting emoticon when we need it! Hats off to you Gigi, ya done good! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 BOTH! BUT, after all, they ARE just outside labs, ya know........... :x Thanks for the congrats on Dusty! I'm also happy that the owners are not sure they want to do this and that she cried in front of me. Sorry, but serves them right. Quote
