Very early this morning during our New Year's celebrations at "the mansion" we had an unexpected surprise: an old male Border Collie turned up and started joining in the fun. We think he must have run off from his house because of the fireworks nearby. He was SOOOO cute, he'd recently been washed because I could smell the flea shampoo on him, physically healthy (his big teeth were as worn down as Rinny's though, he must be at least 10), and he was obedience trained- sit, drop, stay, come, and shake hands :) He had tags but not a nametag and was still hanging around 24 hours later (I've just got home). The Home (ie shelter) isn't open until 10am tomorrow morning so there's not much we could do but keep an eye on him. He had some leftovers and a bowl of water, but couldn't come in because of the cat- don't think she'd take too kindly to him. When I left he was sleeping on the balcony. I hope he's still there in the morning and it all gets sorted out. He's obviously not a stray but I can't help feeling anxious for him. I would have stayed there but I have to work tomorrow morning. My friend is going to call the Home in the morning and report him found. I hope everything turns out ok, I imagine they deal with a lot of firework-scared pets. There must be a family out there who's missing him... I hope... I can't help feeling responsible for him even though he's not my dog and I'm not even at the same house now... :-?
