That is so sad...My advice though, don't join PETA. The president, as i just found out on another board I visited, is not a very nice person. Among other things the general public has been told about they are not a great group in my mind.

No stones Mei-Mei, I understand. We can't change another culture and their ways of life. But Mei-Mei, i think we both agree that we will have a problem if people decide to make that a permanent culture in the USA huh?

 I'll admit I'm a carnivore. I eat meat, but as a personal preference for not devouring my pets I wouldn't eat horse or dog. However I accept that all cultures are different. I am not against the consumption of animals of any kind, but torture just makes me raw with anger. I believe I could spit venom right now.
How can anyone think torture will make a nicer meat, that I don't understand.

I've seen that site before and I'm NOT going back to it.

I believe that in Japan they "torture" ie. slowly kill some sea creatures so the meat tastes sweeter. I can't remember which ones though.

Halal killings of cattle etc are done by slitting the cow's throat, it's not meant to be painful to have your throat cut- kind of like floating away- but the idea of it makes me feel ill, and as I'm not a bovine and I've never had my throat cut I couldn't tell you what it's like, but it sounds torturous.

For a second there I was too frightened to comment, but, being me, I HAVE to. You see, although I am against torturing defenceless animals for any reason, and although I see no harm in eating dog meat if that's what your culture is into, I have a confession to make.
I guess you could say that my taking my dogs out pighunting is torturous to the pig and to the dog. After all the pig does die as an end result and there is a good chance that the dog or dogs will be injured. There is a lot of squealing involved but I believe they're squeals of rage not pain, a big pig weighs 80kgs or more, is very nimble and very ferocious. They are well equipped to handle themselves so 2 or 3 dogs have a big job in controlling them. I don't sit and watch the dogs kill the pig, I or my friend will kill the pig quickly and efficiently in a no fuss way as soon as the dogs have him held. I won't go into details but I can tell you that the pig immediately slumps and dies. Am I as bad as a Korean butcher?? or am I preserving an ancient tradition of hunting with dogs??
These pigs are environmental vandals in australia so I don't feel any guilt about having them all killed off, me and my dogs are doing my country a service.
Anyway, I await your slings and arrows and, should I at recover from the abuse I receive from this post, I will be back....Oh Yes, I will be back!!

Artful,

Are you torturing the pigs before you slaughter them? Are you burning them alive, skinning them alive? It doesn't sound like it. So in that case no you are doing nothing wrong. We hunt deer, elk, bear, ducks, etc. with dogs, this is no different from pigs. Having been to a pig farm I can tell you I heard alot of squealing and it is a loud, obnoxious sound.
So in my opinion you are nothing like the people in my original post. I'm not trying to win votes, I just strongly believe that there are variations.
Torture is nothing like humanely slaughtering for consumption.
Changing the subject somewhat, I also believe that the animal being hunted shouldn't be caught and kept in horrible situations and made to suffer for days or weeks. I am completely abhored by the way US slaughterhouses treat the horses they purchase. Being a sensible person I know that there is a supply and demand for horse meat.
Basically if you're going to kill something do it as quickly as possible and don't let it suffer.
Make any sense at all???
