I was reading this book the other day on training dogs for the canine good citizen test and general training, it was by (I believe) Jack and Wendy Volhard. Anyway, they had this temperment test that they designed and it measures four drives. Prey, Pack, Fight, and Flight. So just for the fun of it I filled it out for Dresden and she got a 75 on prey (suprise, suprise, ACD mix...), a 65 on pack, a 65 on fight, and only a 30 on flight.........I'm sure you all know this but fight and flight refer to whether a dog will fight when threatened or run away...flight. So have any of you taken anything like this ? It said in the score explanation that if you have a dog that is high on prey and fight you may need to seek professional help........Lord help me. I was just curious if any of you had used temperment testing before and what you thought of it. Quote
alicat613 Posted December 24, 2002 Posted December 24, 2002 I haven't taken the test, but I think I will look for it. Just on observation though I'd have to say Parker is 100 flight and 0 fight! He is such a chicken baby! Runs right under mama's legs if he's even startled. Sounds like an interesting test! Quote

I havent ever done one but would be very interested in doing one :D Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 wow, you all are lucky to have such nice balanced dogs, i know everyone wants a protective dog but dresden is a real handful and every so often i think it would be really nice to have another lab or something. i just took the online one and got similar scores again......prey was 75, pack 60, fight 45, flight all of 15....thanks for finding those links wildbunch. Guest Anonymous Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 i think dresden is a wierdo. the other day we were on a walk and we walked by a little girl, maybe six years old, she was minding her own business playing in her sandbox like 25 feet from the road and dresden starts barking at her like she's about to kill us. she's just nuts. i was able to keep her quiet when we walked by four kids all jumping on a trampoline. i just did not understnd her deal with the girl in the sandbox. she got a talking to for that one. Maybe i should take off my rose colored glasses. Quote
