Guest Anonymous Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 are there bears kind of running amok all over the place? Here in the great parts of BC (GO TEAM BC! LOL hee hee) we get bears ALL The time... I've lost count of how many bears I've seen!! I know about 3 or 4 ppl who have actually been CHASED by bears!! This one time, about... I'm not sure, when I was in elementry school, my sister, and my neighbor and I were walking home after school. We turn around a corner, and RIGHT THERE was a big black bear! Ashley (my neighbor) was like "KOOL! A BEAR!" and so Kat (my sis) was like "ASHLEY!!!" and we grabbed her and headed for the closest house which was actually one of Kat's friend's place. It was scary, but we laugh back on it now! LOL  Quote

It was scary, but we laugh back on it now! LOL  I went on a fishing trip this summer to Canada (Ontario http://www.tallpinescamp.com/ ). Our last night there we were watching a movie (yes, hubby had to bring the TV and playstation 2...not the 20" TV, but the 27" ) and we heard a bunch of noise out side. Grabbed the video camera and got to watch young black bear try to raid the neighbor's empty garbage. He was proably 10 feet away from us. Magnificant creatures. We also got the key to the dump and took the mini van up there to check out the bears. Saw a momma and 2 cubs, and then a big fat bear later on. Lots of bald eagles. Took a farther route, got stuck in the mud...I was scared you know what-less. Had to push the freaking van out of the mud in the middle of bear country and in the dump, non the less. :o The flies and mosquitos up there were the size of 747s. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 yeah, bears are neat, as long as you give them the respect they diserve! I use to totally LOVE taking my chihuahua and lab out for a walk in the bush when I was little (both those dogs are gone now, but they RIP), I'd always pretend I was part of a wolf pack, and they were my members! LOL  But since about grade 7 I guess I haven't really appreteated the great place in Canada (and PROUD TO BE CANADIAN! LOL) where I live, of all the wildlife... until someone who's never seen a bear speaks up! LOL Then I'm like "wow! You've never seen a bear?!" :D LOL I have a friend from Australia who's seen dingos and kangaroos in her backyard before, and to me that's like "wow!" So I guess I know how it feels to be the other person too!!! hee hee Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 23, 2002 Posted December 23, 2002 When i walk my dogs no other dogs will try anything. My Fila's are huge dogs. i have a fawn and a brindle fila, as well as a mix terrier breed (he has schnauzer features, but he his pure white). Here in california there is always an incident involving dogs, usually they involve pit bull terriers. so at times id do worry because these animals are really mean over here. There was an incident a month or so ago that 3 pit bull terriers that were attacking a truck, and when the police arrived the dogs attacked the police car as well. Those dogs were shot and killed, and the police really dont like the fact that my fila's are so huge(they always stop me when i am walking them) i really dont know why. But i never fear anything when i am walking them or my little mutt as well. :D Quote
ArtfulDodger Posted December 25, 2002 Posted December 25, 2002 Remember, we humans are the pack leaders. If a dog attacks you HAVE to fight back and reassert your dominance or you could be seriously injured or killed. If backing away isn't working and he attacks, you have to defend yourself at any cost. I would have no hesitation in picking a dog up by his back legs and swinging him against a wall if he came at me with a real intention of injuring me. If the dog was too big or quick to get hold of his back legs just kick, punch, choke, bite, scream and hold the bugger till he gives up, gets scared or is dead. At this stage I'm sure even the staunchest dog lover would have no problems inflicting pain on a dog if they were in fear of their life. A kelpie nipped at my nose at a party once, I only just managed to get out of the way before he would have had a hold of my face. I had been doing nothing, he had just arrived and taken a dislike to me for some reason. I grabbed him by the cheeks, walked him over to the bathtub full of beer and ice and held his head under to cool him off. Later he wouldn't leave my side and he has been devoted to me ever since. No bears in australia so I can't comment. Plenty of sharks but not many people tend to live to tell the tale of their encounters with sharks. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 25, 2002 Posted December 25, 2002 I totally agrre that pit bull terriers are great dogs. but the owners around here shouldnt own a dog that they cant handle. Quote
