Bunches of Questions :-)

Okay folks.. Get comfy cuz I have some questions here :-)

1. My lady and I just bought a house and it has a nice sized yard for Isabelle to play in. My question is we are debating on how to fence it in. I have noticed electric fences are tons cheaper. Im not sure if thats the best path to take or not? any experiences with that type of fence? Is it okay for the dog?

2. Next Question potty training has still been some what of a problem. Im not sure if its out of revenge or what it is. I think I have diagnosed that its not a bladder infection because the dog can hold it all night and when we get up int he morning we take her outside and she goes. However she still has accidents in the house some places.. She be 1 year old in June of next year. Do you think this is all just puppy syndrome stuff still or do you think we should invest in Puppy pads? We've gotten her down to sometimes she'll come over and just look at us so that we will take her out. But we'd like her to go to the door or scratch or whimper or soemthing.. Or is that too much?

3. If she doesn't stop wrestling with this cat.. Im going to choke both of them :-).. Just kidding on the choking.. When do Dogs just say the hell with the cat.. :-).. Is it a growing up thing.. are they friends and I can't tell?? Theres not battle wounds its just a matter or them wrestling and hissing and barking and yada yada..

Anyhow.. Thats all my questions.. Any advice would be great

As for the electric fencing...are you talking underground?

Keep this in mind...you can keep her in, but others will not be kept OUT. My sister's lab is pregnant because of this! :o We wont even go there about how many times I've ranted about getting their two labs spayed....

Bladder infection...it is very potent smelling and you would KNOW! Been there, done that.

Well Im more worried to keep her in. She has already been spayed so she can't get pregnant. Which is good. And it turns out they actually make wireless electric fences.. Talk about cool :-).. No digging or anything.. You plug this little device in and it makes a circle up to 800 ft around the house. And the dog even gets a warning sign before the get a little tingle.. It will beep at them, now wether or not the dog will catch on to the beep is debatable but whatever :-)

As for the bladder infection.. Nothing smells funny or anything.. I just think sometimes she doesn't get our attention.. The dog loves the outside.. what dog doesn't right? So she will go in another room. What Id like to see happen is if the dog scratched at the door or something you know?

Anyhow..

One other tip on the electric fence, is making sure another animal doesn't come in and hurt her...another non dog friendly dog, a wild animal...they are wonderful ideas but a little scary too. I got lucky and our house was already fenced so we didn't have to make that decision!

Let us know what you decide!

What has worked for me is whenever I go to take the dogs out. I make them sit by the door BEFORE opening it to take them out. This makes them realize when they sit by the door, the door opens and they go outside to go to the bathroom. How often do you take her out? Maybe she needs to go more often then you take her out. Try and learn her routine. It will help if you feed her the same time everyday. My 8 month old doesn't have accidents in the house. That is because I know her routine. She needs to go as soon as she wakes up. Then I feed her, and she needs to go again RIGHT after. Even though she was out just 15 min before that. Then she goes out at lunch. She goes out as soon as we get home. Then she eats and she goes out again right after. Then again 2 hours later. And Again right before we go to bed!

My god. I'm so happy we have a dog door!

I'd do a doggy door.. Problem is I have an all glass door.. Its not a slider.. its a normal open shut door but I don't think you can put a dogg door in glass doors.. Can you put like a Doggy door through the siding of a house? Like right beside the door that goes out to the back deck there is a spot on a wall I can carve out but I don't know how safe that is? Any ideas? :o

A girl I used to work with had a doggy door installed into her house not door. I think this is a great idea, especially if you have screen door. Our back door does not have the screen door, and now we can't have once since our dogs only know doggy door house training . The only issue with the doggy door in the house wall is just that...it's actually in the wall. Not as replaceable as a door. What happens when you go to sell the house? What about the siding on the house? I would PREFER a doggy door in the house, not door, but ya gotta take all of that into consideration as well.
