We used "Ace" on the horses when needed, just not geldings or stallions. Why, you ask? Because sometimes, for what ever chemical reason --- the muscles would become paralyzed and the male horse could not retract his penis (it would permanently hang out --- NOT a good thing). :silly:  Oh, I can't even go there....it would be very bad and not appropriate....Hobbit, you sure set your self up for some abuse on that one! ...non-retractable penis...... I'm losin' it here... Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 1, 2002 Posted December 1, 2002 Well Hobbit, tomorrow is the big day. Are you ready? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 1, 2002 Posted December 1, 2002 Wishing the best! Guy will come out with flying colors(He has to check on the sheep!) Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted December 1, 2002 Posted December 1, 2002 :) good luck for tomorrow, hope all goes well Quote
Hobbit Posted December 1, 2002 Author Posted December 1, 2002 Thanks. This has been the longest week (longer I can bet for Connie waiting for the results for her son). I am sitting here, he is asleep and I'm getting nauseated just thinking about the trip, the surgery and everything involved. He is clueless, sleeping like an angel. You wouldn't believe how much the leg has changed in one weeks time. I am glad that the time is almost here for it to be fixed and hopefully everything will be okay. He'll be just fine in a few months, back to playing, back to his old self. It's just the intrim that will be worrisome. Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted December 2, 2002 Posted December 2, 2002 Thinking about Guy today and sending all the positive energy I can. Will check back in this evening and look for updates. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 2, 2002 Posted December 2, 2002 HF love the banner!!!  Quote
Hobbit Posted December 3, 2002 Author Posted December 3, 2002 We are finally home. It was a long day. There were so many dogs there with hip dysplasia ---- so sad. A man brought his Dane in and was saying that he had another dog but it snapped at his child so, .... yep, you guessed it --- it went to the pound. Then he was told that Boxers don't like other dogs, but Danes do and since they are both GREAT with children, ..... he bought a Dane. He's sitting there telling this lady that the Dane is sooooo good with his son and loves other dogs. EVERY dog that walked by, the Dane growled and lunged at the dog!! :-? We were sitting next to where you pay and here he comes to pay --- the Dane is on a loose lead and is eye-balling Guy. I'm thinking, I will kick the snot out of this dog if he lunges at Guy. I finally asked the man to keep his Dane a little closer to him and alot farther away from me. He said, "Oh he loves people". I said, it's NOT me I'm worried about. Guy was on the other side of me. He finally left. Guy, of course, wanted to visit with everyone in there and play with every dog ---- except...  a Pug. It scared him to death. I was laughing so hard at him. He just didn't know what that "thing" was. He'd look at the Pug, then look at me. It was so cute. He'd look, then look at me and I swear he was laughing at that Pug. The vet was nice, but Guy is the first one that he's done the proceedure on (almost got teary eyed there for a moment). MAJOR CONCERN! He assured us that several experienced vet's would be in the surgery room to assist. It took about 2 hours for him to explain the entire proceedure and us to ask every possible question and scenario. Never, ever look at your spouse with that, "I'm either fixing to pass plum out or just fall down and cry" look! Trust me, you WILL have to then use every ounce of composure to NOT do just that. Today was hard, very hard. Quote
yellowlabsrule Posted December 3, 2002 Posted December 3, 2002 So sorry your day was stressful. :( If Winnie was having surgery I'd be extremely stressed. How did the surgery go? I hope it went well. Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted December 3, 2002 Posted December 3, 2002 Well, you know how they always say that it gets worse before it gets better. While things are tough now, keep in mind that it WILL get better. Guy is still in my thoughts and you go get some rest. Trust me... I know exactly how you feel and there can't be any worse feeling in the world than that of absolute helplessness and feeling totally powerless. Quote
Hobbit Posted December 3, 2002 Author Posted December 3, 2002  I forgot to mention, his surgery is in the morning. I will be glued to the phone. The surgeon said he'd call the minute he was out of surgery. He should be able to come home on Friday. They will also be repairing his elbow, which was slowing being dislocated. He'll take post-surgery x-rays (now called "Radio-graphs"), then more before he is released. We'll have to take him back once a week for the next 2 months. I think I asked him several times, without realizing it, if there was any other proceedure that could be done, besides this one. Yes, break both bones and then plate them, BUT --- the leg would be 1 inch shorter and he may have problems because of it. I'm just dreading the halo, I guess. It will be all bandaged up, as to ensure that it doesn't get caught on anything. OUCH. I guess we better stock up on bitter apple to keep him from chewing on the bandages! The bandage will have a "flap or window" were we use a wrench (YES a wrench) to turn the screws 2X's a day). I don't drink (really, I don't), but after this......I might start!! :drinking: Quote

You see the train wreck coming, but are powerless to stop it. When is Perry scheduled for his surgery? Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted December 3, 2002 Posted December 3, 2002 Good! Hope it's not watering for the pizzle! I am very excited to hear the news on Guy. Maybe anxious is a better word than excited. And poor baby looking for her pal....and then to think she really can't play much with him when he gets home, either. ALL I HAVE DONE TODAY IS CRY OVER THESE DOG POSTS!!!! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 3, 2002 Posted December 3, 2002 OK HOBBIT! WE ARE WAITING!!!!!!!!! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 3, 2002 Posted December 3, 2002 Hobbit...How is Guy? Any news yet??? You have had time to eat the bologna by now!! Quote
Hobbit Posted December 4, 2002 Author Posted December 4, 2002 I called after 1pm, they were still in surgery. I was like Bart Simpson....is he out yet, .... is he out yet, ..... is he out, yet..... The vet finally called a little while ago and said he was out of surgery, "seemed" okay, surgery went well "he hopes", and he just pulled the tube out and he is "able" to breath on his own. The vet tech will be calling us to talk about "some things" after 6pm. She is staying with Guy all night to administer pain medications and antibiotics. Tomorrow, they will be seeing if he can "still use" the leg. ( :o ) Isn't it amazing the "little" words that we pick up on and WORRY about it? "Seemed", "he hopes", "able", "some things", "still use" --- NOT what I wanted to hear, but at least it wasn't bad news. So, whew....he made it thru surgery and will be in intensive care until he uses the leg. Then he goes to intermediate care (someone with him all the time, but no pain med's). Then he goes to general care....then home!! IT'S AFTER 6PM AND SHE HASN'T CALLED!! I'm going to have ulcers or be insane before this is over. I'll tell you guys something, I've been about as useless as a hen on pump handle today worrying about the boy. Quote
Hobbit Posted December 4, 2002 Author Posted December 4, 2002 THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL THE WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND PRAYERS, GOOD WISHES, GOOD FEELINGS, ETC... IT MEANT MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW. Gee, I hope the dog in the next hospital bed isn't a PUG!! Quote
