Aroura Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 I took the dogs for a swim today. Lily's only been in volantarily once or twice before and only for short bursts... but today she just couldn't get enough! She just swam and swam, I swam next to her the whole time to keep an eye on her. She's a bit of a beef cake though, all muscle and no fat, head like a brick  So she swam, and she swam and then I threw a little stick for her, and all of a sudden Puddles wanted a stick so I got a little one for her and chucked it in the water (meantime Tessa's swimming around with a 3 metre stick she'd found). Anyway, I turned back to Lily to see she'd swum straight passed the little stick I'd chucked and was at the other side of the creek trying to drage this log she'd spotted in the water. I was like "no Lily, what are you doing?" as I swam over and her head went right under the water and she started to sink, I pulled her up (and got a massive scratch on my belly) and helped her swim back to shore. She shook, coughed and went straight back in and sunk again!!!! (of course I was right behind her to pull her back out) My question is, will she always be a sinker or will her swimming muscles build up and help her learn to swim??? She'd been swimming for a while, she was just getting a little tired. She's fine now, got her home and gave her a bath and now she smells really yummy :) Quote
Aroura Posted November 22, 2002 Author Posted November 22, 2002 Anyone? Doesn't anyone know about this stuff? I've heard boxers are good swimmers, do they have to get used to it first? Help, please? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 My sister has a Boxer (she used to have 2 but one got stolen) and everytime we took them to the lake they went right in the water. They would go after the fish and go after sticks. They never had a sinking problem just swim, swim, swim so I'm not sure about that. They are good swimmers though. How old is yours? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 I dunno...you probably have to get her swimming a few minutes and then rest, swim, then rest, swim....i dunno that much though Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 So true K.... Also dogs have to rest sometimes... And currents in water will have an effect on dogs if they are not use to them. Quote
Aroura Posted November 25, 2002 Author Posted November 25, 2002 Thanks guys, I took her for another swim again yesterday and I was all paranoid the whole time. Wherever she swam, I swam too. She didn't swim as much as the other day, but she did begin to sink once though this time she pulled herself back up. It was fun yesterday, normally we are the only people there, maybe there will occasionally be one or two other people. Yesterday there were about 15 dogs and 40ish people there, all swimming and having a good time. There were a group of teenage boys there when we got there and as soon as we arrived Lily grabbed their eye and they're all like "cool, a boxer!!!". Of all the dogs there Lily was the one in the spotlight most of the time :lilangel: It was so funny when we went to leave, Lily went all crazy and was running around everywhere in big circles, then she dissapeared behind a car for a second and when we looked back, there she was, sitting in the drivers seat with her head out the window!!!! She just looked so funny, sitting there like she owned the car. Then this guy was walking towards the car laughing because it was his car! Well, they say that Boxers are the clown of the dog world, Lily proves it to me at least a couple of times a day! :lol!: Majik, she'll be a year old in 9 days, I'm thinking of taking her to the beach for her birthday :D Its gonna be a big one, I've already bought her lots of pressies. If we can't make it to the beach (its 3 hours away) we'll go to the creek that she swims/sinks in and have a picknick. My sisters will be up for the party too, and I'll have some of her doggie friends to meet us at the creek. Its gonna be fun! Anyone else got any ideas to make it a good party? On the weekend we're going to a doggie xmas party with her training class, that she hasn't been to for a long time because she came in heat and now has to start her class again at the beggining. So she'll have fun then too :) Quote
