Ok here goes......... yesterday I put Fella (3 yr old Pembroke Corgi) outside. I left him out for 30 min, then called him back in. Well all of them. The other 2 came (NOTE: KODA CAME IN!!!!yay!) Fella didn't but sometimes they like to stay out. I was a little surprised, because he was sitting out in the rain, but he's got a dog house and a covered porch. So I left him out while I was gone. Came back 4 hr later........ he was still sitting in the same place. He couldn't walk!!!!!

The vet checked him over...and over....and over. said it's just a pulled muscle, and there is no need to x-ray as "I don't see any reason to x-ray". Every time he touched fella's left hip or back, he screamed.

He gave him 1/2 tab of a muscle relaxer, and said give him one in the morning and at nite. well....fella has slept in one spot almost ever since. I got him up last night about 11 and made him go outside to pee, which he did. But now he won't move, just raises his head and looks at me. Unless he actually did move around yesterday in the yard, to eat and drink, he has not had food or water since the day before??????

I am getting ready to carry him down and try to make him at least drink some water. Maybe eat a treat! I haven't even given him the pill yet....sounds like much more than a muscle to me? does anyone have experiece with this?

I'm so sorry for this. No, I have had NO experience in this but I would be getting a second opinion...or at least calling around to vets that will help over the phone.

Please let us know how he is doing. Poor thing. :(

I do know that with a pulled muscle that the muscles around the pulled one will bunch up and knot up and cause actually more discomfort than the actual pulled one. Although the pulled one will also hurt. If that makes sense.. :-? Did the pill the vet gave help at all?? I would call and say how he is now. Maybe even get a second opinion.

Laying all night could have made the muscle pain worse and he is probably scared to move .... but I would call and ask to be on the safe side!! Just in case he could have jumped and twisted or fallen..

Give him hugs!!

I would have thought that he would have been given some anti inflamitarys(SP) too :o

Get a second opinion. and please keep us all informed

 grrr this is my long day working....all day he has SLEPT. He came in the living room once and looked at me and whimpered. NO eating or drinking. We are gonna see SOME VET tomorrow a.m.!!!!!

K, heat therapy sounds great, I am going downstairs to try it right now. As I have 2 "slipped disks" myself, I know how much this can hurt and have almost been afraid to touch him.

My oranges are gone again, I thought no one had answered to my post!

Poor bubby! If he's not eating or drinking it's not a good sign, hope it is nothing too sinister although he just might be holing up till he recovers :( A second opinion would be useful :fadein: BK sends big slimy kisses (lovely  )...

OK I took him in (to the same office but the other vet) at 8 a.m. and they kept him until nearly 6 pm! They did several sets of x-rays. They at least have him walking now, and I asked for fluids to be injected as well, since he hadn't eaten or drank (drunk?) any water. He ate a little canned food there.

He has 2 disks that are displaced, the fluid-y part in between them is bulging. He is on steroids, pain pills, and complete rest for 6 wk. They sent me home with the phone no. for a vet that is 2 hours drive from here, telling me that if he suddenly becomes paralyzed it IS an emergency,(like I dont know THAT) and I am to take him there and have a surgery that costs $1800.

When this dog was born, his mother buried him. I dug him up and saved him , bottle feeding him from day one. He is like my own child. Except he is more loyal  Don't know what I would do without him.

Wow, I'm so sorry! I hope he gets better without the surgery!!! I know how you feel! I don't know what I'd do if I lost Toby!! And I know what it's like to have to give up bottle fed babies, too... It's just like you're their mom... I really hope he gets well!! Give him hugs for me! :)

Corgi, I am so sorry to hear about Fella. I do have some alternative medical practices you might want to consider. How about canine chiropractics and accupuncture? All of the gang have under gone each one at some time in their lives. Since my guys are so large, they tend to have back, neck and shoulder problems. Adjustments have helped them as has the accupuncture. Talk to your vet and see if he or she knows of a vet that peforms these. Please keep us up to date.

Excellent idea newfiemom  one of mine has had visits to the chiropractor and i really does help.
Isn't arnica good for bruising and injury mending?

Oh! He is doing pretty well. He is walking (and running, if I don't call him down). He whimpers only occasionally. He's still on steroids and pain pills. I have not found the natural remedies yet, have had concerts and rehearsals  sheesh work sure interferes with one's home life, doesn't it? I have the name of a veterinary chiro who is about 2 hours from here... he was highly recommended.... trying to work out a time we can go down there. Thanks for asking!
