Frodo is now almost 9 weeks and has started to bite a lot....
He is teething and has lots of chewy toys. He is terrible with the kids (bites hands and faces) and not too good with my husband and usually leaves me alone. How can we stop this?? I noticed he does it more when the kids are laying down with him on their chest and told them not to hold him like that anymore. Any advice?? It is very frustrating. We tell him no and give him a chew toy but it doesn't work because he goes right for your hand instead of the toy.

Thanks,
Jessica

This happened with Duchess

When ever she starts nipping at your leg you yelp really loud, they are still trying to find out whats alive and not. When dogs are puppies in their litter whenever they chew on each other and when it gets to rough the puppy yelps to tell it's brother or sister that's too hard. Try it

:) I have heard that before you say ouch before it hurts and the dog stops

we're going thru the same thing with Storm right now. She also has a bit of a nipping problem. We went thru this with both Lexie and Rocky, too! You kind of just have to identify what it is exactly that makes them nip. Is it hands waving in front of them or is it when you put them on their back, etc? Once I've figured out what it is, I usually do it a few times so they will try to nip at me. This way I can correct them. I too usually yelp out in pain or just take her gently by her muzzle and tell her no. This worked with both Rocky and Lexie, so I hope that it's as effective with Storm.

It is hard to say what triggers him biting. I think it is more timing than anything.....

He bites the kids if they are laying on the couch and he is on it too. They dont' even have to be looking at him or touching him. He will just go up to them and bite their hands and face.

If we are walking around or "bouncing" our feet while sitting, he will bite at them. I think that is mostly the movement he is going for.

We try yipping at him but he doesn't care. I think he was one of the more dominant dogs in his litter. I think puppy classes are our best answer....

Kenzo does that. If we are playing with him and he starts getting a little rough with the teeth all we have to do is say OUCH or BE NICE and he is licking our owies.

He also loves to bite or nibble with his front teeth. It's soo cute. He'll grab my shirt and start biting it. He does this ALL the time and I'm not sure why.....

LOL! He was doing it this morning too! Hubby and I were getting ready for work and we were lovin'/playin' with the babies. I was sitting in the computer chair, which is an instant Kenzo magnet. He came over to me, I started petting him, and he started nibbling my shirt. He does this daily.

I've heard that dogs can't tell that you have skin under your shirt and that they don't understand if they are biting your skin accidentally cuz they think they are just chomping on the clothing. I find that to be NOT true. He knows....he just wants to nibble on my clothes. :o

OUCH! No skin for Kenzo...purely clothing. Usually on my arm too....weirdo.

What I find most aggrevating about his biting is that he hardly EVER bites me. He only bites my husband and the kids. And, it is more of a nibbling or nipping. He isn't chomping down or anything. The only thing I can think of is that I am firming is saying no and putting him down and ignoring him right away. They pull away and I think he thinks he wins then. And they say no over and over without him stopping. I also told the kids he is old enough now to not be picked up and carried. Thinking he might think he is alpha from being carried.

Blitz bites my ankles (of course). When he play fights with other dogs they will go for the throat or neck, he will go for the heels every time  When Rinny was younger and could play, BK would pretend to be submissive and lie down, and as Rinny stood over him, BK would bite his feet. Cheeky little bugger.

Keller (she's the visually challenaged ACD) has to stand with one foot on top of my foot --- to make sure I don't leave without her knowing it. If I'm ignoring her, she'll stick her nose up my shorts leg and with her nose she'll shake my shorts. If I am just totally ignoring her, she'll stick her nose up my shorts leg and pinch the crap out of me! YOUCH .......
