Guest Anonymous Posted November 2, 2002 Posted November 2, 2002 Why do dogs "shake their kill"? I know why they roll in smell and turn in circles to lie down or go to the bathroom but why do they get their toy and shake them? Does this have something to do with "mother scolding puppy"? THANKS Quote
Shannon_C Posted November 2, 2002 Posted November 2, 2002 Its something that dogs do, say for example a wild cat catches a rat, once caught it will shake it to make sure its dead, its in there instinct to do it....mine shake there toys or anything else that might be given to them. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 2, 2002 Posted November 2, 2002 You know why they roll in smell? Please explain to me why! I'm sure tired of the stinky neck! Quote

Gigi, they roll because they want to smell like the environment, so they won't smell different. That way, smelling like their surroundings, they can sneak up on their prey or their preditors can't sniff them out (because they don't smell different). Quote
cairnmom Posted November 2, 2002 Posted November 2, 2002 And I always thought they liked rolling in smells because it was like doggie perfume to them. :) Yum! Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted November 2, 2002 Posted November 2, 2002 :) i don't know why they turn around in a circle before they lie down Quote
Bensam Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 I read somewhere that dogs circle around before they lie down to make a bed, flattening the grass etc, this being an instinct from the wild. Quote

I was hoping there was a way to stop this awful stench they bring in with them from time to time...I guess once the snow comes they'll start smelling pretty!!! :o Quote
