I have a weird question..... Can water be to cold for ure dog to drink??? Like if it's been 28 degrees out all day is that too cold for them to drink?? :roll:

Is your dog ever allowed inside. Although some people do keep their dogs outside, I am not one of them. There is also a big danger that unscrupulous people can get in and either poison, torment, or steal dogs to be sold to laboratories for experiments or to use as bait to train fighting dogs.

Well, since 32 is freezing, at 28 degrees the water would be frozen. Of couse, if you are talking celsius this would be a moot point since 28 degrees celsius is about 82 degree farenheit.

If the water is not frozen and is just "ice cold" I still would not recommend giving ice cold water to a dog when it is below freezing out. Poor dog is probably freezing to death. Bring it in side and give it fresh water out of the tap in the warm house.....much better solution. :D

I dont think cold water will kill your dog but it would leave the door open for sickness to its damage, so here are my cold weather suggestions

if its that cold out I'd put the water in an old tire so that the black rubber heats the water as the sun shines. make sure the sides of the vessle contact the surface of the tire rim. I'd also make sure the dog can get off the frozen ground or snow so that he can sun bathe when needed. in addition to sun baths I would also get a large heat lamp the kind used for large hogs and farm animals that need to be kept warm. Put the heat lamp in with some hay and it will make big differance. (Carefull though you have the ingrediants for a nice fire) after you build the dog an enclosure, place black roofing paper on all sides, tack it down tight, not only is it black but will seal off the water. last but not least you should insulate the inside of his pen, just use the pink stuff and partical board or plywood. you can make a toasty little home this way.

I've heard that one way to keep water from freezing is to smear a thin coat of vegetable or mineral oil on the (in)sides of the bucket/bowl. I don't know if it works or not though. Dogs handle drinking really cold water the same as people do. Drinking cold water or large amounts of water right after exercise can make them sick, and if they're outside in the cold, it'll make them even colder. I've also heard (don't know if it's true or not) that drinking too much really cold water can also cause/contribute to bloat, which can be deadly. There are also heaters that you can buy for in their bowls, and if you can't find one for dogs, I'm pretty sure they make them for horses.

If it's too cold for the water it's too cold for the dog, bring dog and water inside :cry:
