Shannon_C Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 I always turn the sound up on the tv or stereo to shut out the loud noises, my Westie mix used to be really terrified of them but he seems to have calmed down a little now as he is slightly deaf...but occasionally when he hears a loud bang he starts getting restless but i don't respond to his actions by cuddling or talking to him as this encourages fear, i just leave him to settle. My other 2 dogs a Bullmastiff and Border Collie mix are'nt too bothered...neither are our cats. I see that if you dont give your pets too much attention, they dont take any notice of the fireworks. They seem to be tough the cats when they are out roaming! Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 AND IT'S NOT OVER YET THEY CARRY ON WHERE I LIVE UNTIL NEW YEARS EVE. THEY SHOULD ONLY BE SOLD FOR FIRE WORK DISPLAYS AND NOT TO THE PUBLIC. I DON'T THINK IT'S CHILDREN LETS OFF FIREWORKS AT 11PM ITS THE GANGS OF TEENAGERS. I MAKE A FUS OF THE DOGS AND REASURE THEM IT'S OK Quote
yellowlabsrule Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 Same with Winnie! She thinks fireworks are great fun  , she starts yipping when we set them off at 4th of July. We have to keep her inside when we do them because she tries to eat them! :o Quote
bk_blue Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 The best thing you can do with a dog who is reacting badly to fireworks is to ignore them, or pretend everything's ok and nothing weird is happening (although all you want to do is cuddle them!). Bk get all excited when he hears fireworks. He runs around and barks and whinges and carries on. He does this with thunderstorms and blimps too, he thinks if he barks until it goes away he's scared them off and then goes to his bed all satisfied with himself. Quote
