Ok, you guys probably all know that Lily is in heat. Its her first season and she's a 10 month old Boxer (for anyone who didn't know...).
The thing is, I thought bitches were supposed to bleed for the first 7-10 days of the heat... but its nearly week 4 now and she's still bleeding! Should I be worried?
Also, if she's still bleeding now, at week four, does that mean that once she stops I still have to wait 3 weeks until I can walk her? Arghhh!!!! As if being in heat wasn't bad enough... its gonna last 7 bloody weeks!!!!! :microwave:
Well, such is life I guess, all we can do is have patience!

The entire cycle lasts normally between 21 to 28 days. If the bleeding is heavier than normal (like a stream), I would contact a veterinarian.

All bitches are different. Some bleed more heavier than others. Some you would never know they were in heat. Some cycle longer than others, some seem to only cycle a few days, some seem to NEVER be out of heat. Some clean themselves better than others. The first heat is sometimes called the "trash" heat and it may be different from all the rest upcoming heat cycles.

Boy, that wasn't anything to look forward too, huh?!?

If I was in your place I would just call your vets office and just ask their opinion. This way it wouldn't cost you anything, and you would be more certain as to what is normal for her breed. I have male dogs so never have this problem, but if I did that would be the first thing I would do. Call the Vet, a phone call never hurt anyone. :fadein:

First thing said at my vets office is, 'we can schedule an appt' whenever I've tried the above.
However, still worth a shot and a good idea, probably will need to ask the desk folks to ask the vet to call you back when they have time.

I bathe my Yorkies twice a month, in or out of season, unless they are being bred. I realize a larger breed is not bathed often as a toy breed. Why not use Baby Wipes or a towelette product to clean her up? Also, baby powder, lightly dusted takes care of doggie odors during seasons. My dogs have never suffered any harm from these products.

all bitchers are different, but if i was you worried which you sound to be i would just get some advice from your local vet.i must admit i have never had that problem because i have always had them nutered. but each to there own.ring the vet if your really worried.they will advise you better and also suggest having her looked at if need be.

Thanks guys :D
No need to call the vet, FINALLY she's stopped bleeding! Does this mean I have to wait 3 weeks from now until she's safe? The wierd thing is she's not acting like she's on heat or anything, chasing boys etc. Her nipples are a little swollen though, like she's having a phantom pregnancy, but she's still on heat?
The reason I didn't call the vet is because they would have asked to make an appointment, and the vets here usually don't tell you anything you don't already know anyway. You guys have more hands on experience etc, I was just wondering if it was normal.
Ahh, the joys of a bitch on heat!!!!
