Guest Anonymous Posted October 21, 2002 Posted October 21, 2002 Ruh oh. i think I have met my match in managing my pup. We have been doing some pretty heavy training lately which I am pleased to say is going quite well....HOWEVER, he has also reverted back to one very bad habit! He is eating all the wood in my house again! Someone tell me how to stop him. Tried a muzzle on someone's advice, but he took it off in 5seconds flat and starting trying to eat IT! He has chewed the corners off my pine coffee table and started on my desk yesterday while I WAS SITTING RIGHT THERE at my computer! I dont know what to tell you. He is just One year in Sept. He is a Chow. He is very intelligent and is food oriented - which is how we have been training him. Encouraging him to learn commands by rewarding him with bits of his own food. Anyone ever had this happen? Is there something I can do that doesnt involve putting "sitnky stuff" all over my house? EBBY Quote
Guest roo Posted October 21, 2002 Posted October 21, 2002 Ebby Hes not chewing up your furniture He is RE DESIGNING IT  Try bitter apples spray , its not sticky. spray it on where he chews infact spray it everywhere chewable  (oh yes i remember it well) Roo :D :D :D Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted October 22, 2002 Posted October 22, 2002 Does Bitter Apple smell at all? The pet store once sold me some stuff for my cats (to keep them out of my houseplants) and said it didnt smell, but if I use it, I can smell this horrid smell on my hands for days and cant even eat afterwards- and yet no one else seems to notice it...lol. What can I say - Im as strange as my dogs... Thanks for the suggestion - if it doesnt smell Ill gladly use it...maybe if I spray it all the way up the stairs I can keep him on the main floor????? lol. Does it stain was my other question..... EBBY Quote
corgilady Posted October 22, 2002 Posted October 22, 2002 Actually I think it was carol, not me, about the vicks. However I have had success just sprinkling a little red pepper around the yummy wood furniture that needs "doggie custom carving". Vacuum it up later, it's easy. Or you could start a business with your new designs. Also K will yell at your dog over the computer if you ask her to. Works wonders. Quote

corgilady Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 oh hey sash you can attribute others' good ideas to me any time  And ebby I'm glad you weren't offended at my silliness...sometimes it's better just to laugh, esp. when dogs are destroying the antiques and so forth. And... grumpy hubbys are a lot of bother aren't they?.... just put him in the doghouse, hon. After all, the dog doesn't use it, right? Quote
