K, I just voted, and I am astounded at the number of people who say that they shouldn't nueter or spay! :o
I think they are just worried about the money!!!

I know that after posting this, everyone on the forum will voye "YES" and then we will win! 8) Becuase that's what happens every time!

Hope the "yes"'s win!

Good for you K! For posting this, now thier shelters will hopefully neuter and spay! :D

It almost frightens me that I totally agree with something PETA endorses! :D
I have cast my yes vote!
The only exceptions to this that I can think of are babies simply too young or animals that are too weak or undernourished to tolerate the surgery until they are stronger.

I voted *yes*. We don't need anymore dogs running around having babies, especially mixed breeds or dogs with health problems. it is so much better if they get spayed or neutered. It's sad that some people care more about the cost, then the well-being of their dog. Why would so many people vote no?

Our shelter here use to not spay/neuter before adoptions... They gave out vouchers for so much of a spay/neuter...Which is okay BUT not if the people are not going to follow up and check to be sure it gets done... I agree with having it done prior to adoptions but what does happen once this is done is it increases the costs.....but if you have intelligent or rather people who are there for the animals then they should be out looking for those programs that are low cost for shelters and organizations...

This is the situation where I am at and volunteered:

Okay this animals were being adopted out with no spaying or neutering just a voucher that no one was checking up on. The needed foster homes so I volunteered to foster 4 pups (3 weeks) old.. A lady and I talked to Petsmart and got in there to start doing adoptions as it was getting to cold to stand in Walmart parking lot(for the animals too).. They complained the drive was toooo long! (15 minutes) She and I would wash and clean up the animals.... Well the shelter assistant comes to my house to give the pups shots...she shoots 1/2 of the shot in the floor!!!!!! Then they did not worm them!!!!!!! It gets even better..... The vet, who is the pres. of this organization, sents Rabies shots home with the other lady to give....which is against the law but instead of being sure she knows how just sends them.....WHY because the dogs STINK...She just picked them up from the shelter!!! DUH!! Before she leaves he is writing up a bill for the organization!! To give to the treasurer..His wife.... Okay I have nothing against that but at meeting when you are suppose to get a detailed expense and account sheet...they cannot produce one!! funny huh!! Well then the little shelter attendent is taking dogs out of the shelter and useing to breed...One was a 9 yr old yorky with mammary tumors and blind... We had proof.. Call the county they do nothing...she now handles the cruely cases... takes them to her house...That is until a little bird called her county animal control for cruelty and they went to her house and found dogs with no food, water, houses, tied to the front of cars and etc..... Still she works at our shelter.... and for the organization...
One good thing this organization has done...We have a new shelter.....
It is no bigger than the other as far as animal space but it has office space! :x :x

   OHHHHHHH how do you stand that????

:evilbat:
I voted awhile ago...just didn't post  but my question is this: why in the world would you NOT want shelter pets neutered???? and WHOOOO would oppose it?

I have voted 'yes'. A question --- is there any reason why we cant keep going back and voting multiple times, do they have any check as to how many times each person votes? If there's no check, maybe that's how there's so many 'no' votes? One has to be sneaky sometimes

I voted YES, of course... 8)
The two main shelters in my city, as far as I am aware, have a spay/neuter policy. Not having one is just complete and utter stupidity as far as I am concerned, I can't believe people are voting against it...let *them* spend just half an hour in a shelter and see how they feel afterwards.

Its a bloody disgrace!! I put my vote in .I cant understand why people would want a pet that wasnt speyed its so much hassel when the bitches are on heat or are running around trying to find a girl friend As a breeder myself I know how careful you have to be and all my dogs are housed seperately I dont believe in accidents but for the unwary it can easily happen :evilbat: :robot: I was thinking the same thing as you bensam about voting twice arent we evil!!!!

I forwarded the link to my belgian list, hopefully we'll get more yes votes! There is a raging discussion going on with the belgian people right now, many were not aware that not all shelters required animals to be spayed or neutered before leaving. Heck even the SPCA in Richmond which does require it before adoption allowed me to foster Candy without her being fixed first. She was old enough to have come in season and either snuck under the fence or had a fella visit.

:( I am not sure why so many otherwise bright and caring people want to demonize PETA. I do not agree with all their postions and methods....but for the most part I am in agreement with their positions.

1. Fur belongs with the original owner.
2. Animal cruelty in any form is wrong
3. Spay and neuter is a must

I do cruelty investigations in a small town and I assure you they are a big help in a very polite and proactive way...not radical.
