Guest Anonymous Posted October 18, 2002 Posted October 18, 2002 Hi guys. im new to this site, so bear with me. This is not about my dogs, but a friends dog who is terribly sick and no one seems to know what is wrong with him. He is a 5 month old boxer (Axel) and he has the following symptoms. He suddenly could not use his back legs and was dragging them. then the following day he couldn't stand at all, the day after that he could not lift his head either. He is eating somewhat and drinking regularly...he cries when touched, but his stool is normal. All veterinarian blood work has come back normal as has his x-rays. No one knows what is wrong with him and he is currently staying at the clinic for observation. if anyone knows any reason why this should be, please let us know. Additonal information isthat he started getting sick on monday and on Friday he had his vaccine for Kennel Cough (in case that has anything to do with it) Although the vet says it doesnt..... Quote
Smooshie Posted October 19, 2002 Posted October 19, 2002 EBBY....hi there! Welcome to the forum :D I got your PM...If you'd like to post pics of your dogs, read this tutorial http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=1643 ...its pretty self explanatory(read the "images in your posts" paragraph)...if you're still having trouble posting pics after that, send me a message and I'll try to help you figure it out. I am so sorry to hear about your friend's Boxer baby!!! I honestly don't know what to tell you :( Has she taken him to a different vet to get a second opinion?? The only thing I can think of is "SPONDYLOLITHESIS" (more commonly known as Wobblers Syndrome): http://www.ardistan.com/writings/dogstories/wobblers.html or maybe "Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy" (although I think this is less likely). http://www.workingdogs.com/doc0018.htm Those are just educated guesses on my part, but please pass those site urls on to your friend...Boxers are prone to both disorders and the symptoms you described sound like "Wobblers",but I'm certainly not an expert...my advice is to PLEASE post a message on this site: http://www.boxercentral.com/forum/ there are many knowledgeable Boxer people there who could probably help you more than I can...I wish you and your friend luck! Please let me know what you find out :-? Quote

Hobbit Posted October 20, 2002 Posted October 20, 2002 Have him checked for West Nile Fever. These are the same symptoms that infected horses are exhibiting. Quote
Smooshie Posted October 20, 2002 Posted October 20, 2002 I replied to this same post in "everything about dogs",but I never even THOUGHT of West Nile :o . Great thinking Hobbit!..........as a matter of fact I believe newfiemom posted a thread in here about the symptoms of West Nile in dogs awhile back..... Here is the link : http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=1804 Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted October 20, 2002 Posted October 20, 2002 thanks smooch - we'll look into those. We have had 3 vet opinions and they seem more confused than we do! Anyone else wants to comment - feel free...thanks again. Quote
Hobbit Posted October 20, 2002 Posted October 20, 2002 I posted on the other post: Has the dog been tested for West Nile Virus? Infected horses are exhibiting similar symptoms. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted October 20, 2002 Posted October 20, 2002 We live in Alberta, as far as I know there are no known cases in our province yet, and it is getting too cold here for mosquitos now, but you never know - it is worth checking out. Thanks again. EBBY Quote
