gooeydog Posted October 16, 2002 Posted October 16, 2002 What kind of toys do your dog(s) like best? What toys hold up the best, shred the easiest, etc? I figure that with all the people on here, plenty of different toys have been "tested" :o Quote
bk_blue Posted October 16, 2002 Posted October 16, 2002 Hee hee, this is probably the wrong question for me as BK is no longer interested in anything except other dogs! (oh, and cats, and possums, and flies... ) He loves his bones though, but not plastic ones, I spent twenty bucks on a Nylabone last month and he's not touched it once :-? He also gets into the recycling bin and pulls out all the tins with interesting stuff still stuck in them ie. tomato tins, dog food tins etc. When he was a puppy/young adult and teething/being destructive he would chew on just about anything. Concrete (ouch), my watch (which still has the bite marks) charcoal from the fireplace, garden hose, wood, the entire contents of the garage on one memorable occasion, the big bin a few times, oh and the axe... He would pick up the axe by its handle and start swinging it from his mouth like a Viking, and when it was hot he'd jump up on the outside table and sunbake while chewing happily on the axe handle. Needless to say we kept the axe AWAY from him after we discovered this little habit. Grandad's dachshund puppy, Tomson, is a little more "normal" and likes Kongs, rope chew toys, bones... :D Quote
Smooshie Posted October 16, 2002 Posted October 16, 2002 Loki likes anything that comes wrapped in a PetSmart bag :D (must be the smell...he recognizes those bags the second I come in the house and bounces around like a maniac til I show him what's inside  ) Some of his favorite's are rope toys,Kongs (especially if they're stuffed),frisbees...oh and of course his all time favorite..the coveted BALL .Its like an appendage :o...he carries it EVERYWHERE,and even when he sleeps he has to be touching it. Quote
gooeydog Posted October 16, 2002 Author Posted October 16, 2002 I wrote a post earlier, but it disappeared right before I posted it :o so I'm trying again... All our dogs like chewy bones and stuff (when I get them from the bulk bins at petsmart I have to bury them in the dogfood bag for a day or two though, because Goo doesn't like the way they smell). They like stuffies too, of course they don't stay stuffed long :o Joey's learning to play fetch, so he's gotten pretty interested in "his ball", but other than that, him and Casey aren't really interested in toys. Goo likes pretty much anything with me on the other end of it. Some of the toys she plays with by herself, but most of the time she runs around teasing me with them, in an attempt to get me to play with her. She's had a few she really liked, a hideous latex (I think) octopus (Joey chewed a hole in it, so it's on top of my bed waiting to be fixed), a cow that moos (also on my bed waiting to be fixed), and a big latex ball (she's had it about a year, and it's got so many tears from her and Annie playing tug with it that I think it's about "dead" :o ). The toys that last the longest for us have been kongs, the "rhinobone" (a big black bone made by nylabone), the ball I mentioned above (I think it was called a "clutch ball"), some stuffies (not sure why those particular ones are "saved"), and the orbee ball seems to be ok so far. Annie likes balls... any balls, especially if they squeak. She likes the tug rope too, and we made her a springpole. She also likes most of Goo's toys, which occasionally causes conflict  . Annie won't just play with a toy though, or chew on it. It has to be moving. She also sleeps with her ball sometimes. Goo knows the petsmart bag too... when I come back from there, she runs out like, "what did ya buy me?". I "trade" the toys sometimes, usually all Goo's big toys are out in my room (which is blocked off by a board that none of the small dogs can get toys over), and most of the smaller ones are in a big plastic rubbermaid type box. Then when I notice the dogs are getting bored with the toys they have (or that they're destroying them all), I take some out of the box for them, and put the others in the box. Well one day I left for a few minutes, and Goo apparently decided that she wanted her "moo-cow" from out of the box, because when I came home she was laying in the middle of a huge pile of toys, with her head on the "moo-cow". I've since noticed that she figured out how to get the lid off the container, so I keep all her favorite toys out of it and on my bed. Quote
Carolk9s Posted October 16, 2002 Posted October 16, 2002 Lets see, favorites: fleece toys with squeakers, rope toys with stuffed toys attached w/squeakers, regular stuffed toys with squeakers, grunty hedgehog, balls for me to throw, then dog runs like mad, picks up ball, then drops ball so I can get some exericse too! :) Limited appeal, wiggly giggly bone, jingle balls, plain rope toys. Lost interest quickly in kong toy, which naturally is the one closest to indestructible. Mine also seem to know the Petsmart bag and try hard to get into it before I even get it in the house. Rope toys last a good while but I do watch for dogs chewing off strings and eating them. Now when practicing agility with Candy, she is a ball maniac, she is so wired up for agility I have to let her burn off some of that buzz plus it adds more fun to the practice. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted October 16, 2002 Posted October 16, 2002 Let's see...... Cocker likes balls....Jac likes ANYTHING that is not nailed or glued down!!! :P Forest likes the little garden shovel and the leashes...Oh yeah and the soccerball is the fave around here!!! Quote
Hobbit Posted October 17, 2002 Posted October 17, 2002 Our monsters....er, I mean angels like anything that rolls, squeaks, tumbles, flies, hops, skips --- anything they can bite shake, play tug-of-war with, play keep-away with, anything they can herd, chase, squeak (aka: beg for mercy) and destroy, destroy, destroy....warning Will Robinson...warning....oh, sorry -- got carried away. Horsefeathers! Posted October 17, 2002 Posted October 17, 2002 Keys, shoes and the corners of all my furniture. Oh yeah... and aloe vera plants. *groan* :x Quote
Guest roo Posted October 17, 2002 Posted October 17, 2002 Mine have got a toy box, full of all different toys, frogmella likes only teddys, but only like them untill she had removed the eyes(is this so they cant see what shes doing) she then removes all of the stuffing, then game over. Puddin, his bestest toy is the giggle ball, only he is allowed to play with it, and only when he is in a room on his own, he becomes hysterical with it and we are now on our 8th giggle ball. this toy is not kept in the toy box. the puppy Daisy likes pegs :o and snail hunting :o :o Dusty will play with all of the toys. I got a latex piglet a few months ago and they all liked that, but it vanished( its about a foot long) only to turn up in emilys kennel so that is now all hers. Roo Quote

I have to do this with my Macaw,as she bores VERY easily......Loki of course has caught on to this and has taken it upon himself to "swap" toys with her at every possible chance.....if the bird is out and I forget to close her cage door,he goes in and tries to help himself to HER toys.....she has a kong, booda rope and various pressed rawhides that interest him....of course they're all suspended from the cage bars by chains,so I catch him on occasion standing INSIDE her cage tugging at them  Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted October 20, 2002 Posted October 20, 2002 Gladis likes soft toys that squeek Paddy likes the very hard plastic ones or a tennis ball Poppy has the twisted rope type. Stolen ones are the best Paddy will take the towel from the bathroom or a sock lost on its way to the wash he will have one end the Gladis the other :) :) :) Quote
eggrolyn1223 Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Duck doesn't really like any toys....well, kind of.She LOVES pig ears(but she gets tired of them if she gets more than 1 a day)....she likes her chilly bone too..Actually, she doesn't have a lot of toys because my mom doesn't let me buy them...she says I can make a rope for her..would a plain stuffed animal(for humans) be okay for her as long as there are no little parts??Cuz she seems to like soft stuff...cloth mostly.I told my mom to get one of those vermont fleece toys that have a squeaker inside, but my mom said it was a waste of money, so she didn't get it...she doesn't really like Duck and can't think of a reason why Duck should be spoiled(like all other dogs) 8) I've never tried anything like Kongs(mainly because my mom doesn't approve), but I don't think they would work either.....can anyone think of a toy that Duck would just LOVE?That lasts too.. Rowie-the-Pooh Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Egg, you know a stuffed toy (for humans) isn't bad at all!(As long as they don't have small parts!) Rowie has her own seal(yes, a stuffed seal!) that she LOVES and carries around with her wherever she goes! I also have a flat football, she loves to "attack" it, and ALSO flat basketball, wich is one of her fave's. Maybe you could get her a flat football Egg, they're cheap! Oh, also for Ducks nipping problem, what iI do is take the muzzle and everything, OR put a stuffed toy or ball in her mouth......she then just ignores me and goes away...... Quote
