As you may know I have two Pits age 7 months now. I bought them 2 Black Kongs the other day. They used to have an other brand of kong, but tore them up. Now they have torn up peices of their Black Kong Toys as well!

I can't belive it! Are these Kongs guranteed not to tear up?

They're strong....but they're not guaranteed to be indestructable....even my Boxer can wear down a black Kong after awhile.
The Black XL "King" Kong is the strongest they make I think...was this what you gave them, or was it the smaller black Kong?? My vet told me that if my dog was easily destroying his Kong,to go UP a size...

Thanks that makes sense because the bigger the kong the harder it would be to apply that kind pressure on it.

I hope that will slow them down a bit!....I think they have yet to invent a "pit-proof" toy

If you haven't already, you may also want to try giving them "Galileo Bones" (They come in 3 different sizes and are made by the same company that makes Nylabone). A friend of mine has a Pitbull and her vet recommended these.....according to her it takes Oz (her Pit) a long time to break them down ....I believe you can get them at most pet stores/PetSmarts :D

Galileo bones are good, Rhino bones (big black rubber bones sold in petsmart) are pretty good too, from what I've heard. You also might want to check out Planet Dog toys... their website is www.planetdog.com They give a lifetime guarantee on their orbee ball, if your dog eats the ball (the bungees aren't included in the guarantee), you can bring/send it back and they'll give you a new one. I just got Goo one, and it's still intact (it's the one she had in the pictures I posted a few days ago), but she's not a real "destructive chewer". She usually just throws her toys around and shakes them (and we play tug a lot too), but if I ignore her when she's trying to get me to play she ends up "taking out her frustration" on the toy, and I get to clean up the "remains"

Thanks for the info Gooey! I meant to ask you what kind of ball that was (in Goo's pic),and where you got it ...I might have to go ahead and order one of those for Loki...he goes thru balls in no time....eats the tennis balls....punctures the basketballs, and just plain shreds soccer balls and volleyballs  Maybe one of these orbee balls will last him......what size did you get for Goo?

I think Goo's is a large, this new petstore had them (only one size), and when I saw that they had a guarantee, I figured I'd try one. So far it's holding up pretty well, even though Joey (Chi/termite mix?) got ahold of it the other day. Goo's favorite part is actually the bungee, strange dog

Well I don't know about these things cuz my dogs were never very strong chewers.I had asked my mom to get Duck a Galileo thingy and some other stuff but she said she didn't buy some of them because they were too expensive.I wasn't mad, and she said the stuff she DID buy was 50 dollars in al!!! :o :o :o :o Why can't they be cheaper?I'm just wondering if I just so happened to ask for expensive stuff, so I'm asking:
How much are the toys you get for your dogs? Are there any really long lasting, fun, and cheap toys that you know of?My mom got a chilly bone and it was expensive....but I needed that cuz Duck loves eating ice cubes except they're really messy. My mom said I can't keep getting stuff that's so expensive, cuz we're not rich or anything. But Duck just can't survive without toys!!And I wish my dad would just stop buying all this computer stuff for us, cuz we don't even want it!!He just bought this REALLY expensive laptop(it's the newest) for my sister, and he's always buying computer games for me, which I don't even use.I told him I don't like playing computer games, but he said I have to like them or something.I have a really weird dad.He tries to buy stuff I don't want and doesn't let me buy stuff I want. He's really computer crazy while my sister and I are dog crazy. He spends ALL my family's money on computers!!!And we don't even need all that junk!!!I know some people dream to have those computer crazy dads, but I wish he would save his money for more useful stuff.UGH..

I also use those white hollow bones that have been cooked. They are tough and last about 4-6 months with a dog.

I don't think there IS a Storm proof toy :( She has had a Gallileo bone and trashed it in under an hour (and it was expensive and they did not believe me when I tried to get my money back :x they said I had done it myself with electric equipment....DUH! WHY???

  ....Geez K...maybe you should offer to bring Storm to the store with you for a free "how to effectively trash a toy in under 60 minutes....the Staffie way" Demonstration.

Aren't the Black Kongs the largest ones??? They are guarenteed though!! Someone...wrote the Kong place or emailed and they said to take the XL kong and the small kong and put the small one inside the big one! This is for those dogs that REALLY like to CHEW!!

Smooshie...great idea! :o but who would pay for all the stuff she can effectively make worthless in 1 hour!!!!!

I can tell you this my Sharm-el-Sheik "Hard Rock Cafe"Teddy Bear never stood a chance :(

I did have more luck with the "indestructable dog bed" people they gave me a replacement bed and marveled at her determination to prove thier 12 seperate "stress" tests wrong...but now I have a new problem with the 2nd bed...it is supposed to be able to withstand weights of up to 250kg but Elric getting on and off it has managed to buckle the legs so much Hubby is thinking of re-welding the entire frame as he knows we will never persuade them into giving us a 3rd one!!!! :-?

Sadly,I too have lost several innocent teddy bears to horrific doggy-induced dismemberment!
:o ...they're very crafty....you'd never know by looking at their big goofy doggy grins that they are really cold, vicious toy murderers!! :evilbat: ...and when toys just aren't enough anymore, not even the dog beds are safe :o (ohhh the horror!)

See what happens when I have too much time on my hands and a whole pot of coffee to myself???

In all seriousness though K....you should put your dogs' "strengths" to good use, and open your own pet product testing facility....Elric and Bobbi can perform all the weight tests and Storm and Blade can perform all the stress testing....I'd buy any toy that could withstand YOUR bunch

Hmmm...the black kongs are made of stronger rubber than the red ones and are meant for the "power chewers"....I've seen them in 2 sizes here...regular and XL (king)....hey! that WOULD be a great idea if they could put one inside the other :o ...maybe we should ALL write to the Kong company :D

That idea is the from the Kong company they do fit inside the other...use Pam spray or butter and the fit right in each other!!! I will see if I can find it!!!

Ohhhhhh! Well that IS a great idea then!!....might be just the solution to Hollywood's problem!

...although, ya might want to make sure there's no one else around when you try it......it might be "awkward" trying to explain to someone why you're lubricating a KONG :o

Believe it or not, you can teach your dog not to destroy his/her toys.

Mine didn't have a problem with hard rubber chew toys, but he tore apart his squeaky toys in no time flat. After a few days of the following, his soft toys now last till their too gross to keep.

Watch him, and take the toy away as soon as he begins to get destructive, say something like "oops, too bad" and put it up. After a few times, he will understand why the toy goes away, and not destroy it. They can still get all the chewing satisfaction they need, without running the risk of swallowing a piece of rubber (I lost a ferret that way, no good).

In order to give them the satisfaction of "destroying" something :D take an old sheet and cut it up into strips. Tie a dry treat or piece of kibble in one strip, then keep tieing strips around that first one, placing pieces of kibble in every other stip, until you have a big ball. My dog loves this, it is simulating part of their instinctual need to "disect" and tear apart their food.

Guys, get a pizzle. Yes, they'll eat it and it'll be gone, but it'll save the teddy bears!
