Smooshie Posted October 8, 2002 Posted October 8, 2002 I'm no expert, but I really don't think her spine and ribs should be showing like that!!!! She looks emaciated :( Quote
deepseasnake Posted October 8, 2002 Author Posted October 8, 2002 gallery link is http://www.geocities.com/nfhiggs/rogues.htm do you think we should start emailing him? Quote
sixjollydogs Posted October 8, 2002 Posted October 8, 2002  she looks like a case of animal abuse...or a very sick dog! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted October 8, 2002 Posted October 8, 2002 Candy's backbone and ribs were exactly as they appear on this dog, so yep she's underweight, probably about 15 lbs. When Candy looked like this, she was 12-13 lbs underweight. You can see the hip and thigh bones in this dog. In my OPINION, you can also see the look of a dog living in despair, she appears wary and defensive to me. Quote
Carolk9s Posted October 8, 2002 Posted October 8, 2002 Darn it, second time I've had to login today, above post from Guest referring to Candy is me! Quote
Smooshie Posted October 8, 2002 Posted October 8, 2002 OK I went back and looked at the gallery :x This is sick! Apparently Ivy is deceased...it says she "strangled herself with her chain" Hottie is on a chain that looks like it weighs more than she does (she's only 5 months old!!) Atlas is as skinny as Sadie Clyde is dead Where did you find this site Deep??? I can't believe this guy is PROUD of the condition his dogs are in!! Quote
deepseasnake Posted October 8, 2002 Author Posted October 8, 2002 I was on operationk9rescue looking at their "success" stories I was looking at neo named sterling and on the owners webpage she states that her favorite link is the one these pics are from I it very disturbing that this guy has that little "sugar" on that huge chain! and the only dogs that look anywhere near "good" are his brand new ones, I dont know what to do, I think I'll email him and find out where he lives, I dunno :x Quote
corgilady Posted October 8, 2002 Posted October 8, 2002     OH my gosh. Wish I had never looked, Deep, now I am furious!!!!! :evilbat: Here's something from his about me page: My name is Norman Higgs, I'm 37 years old, and I currently reside in Porterville, California I did a search for his phone no. but got no results. His dog sadie is SKINNY in the pics....note what he says about her....."age about 8 years....I had to sell her last year, just didn't have room for her"HE SOLD AN 8 YEAR OLD DOG! He needs to get a life!!!!! I am too angry for words!!!! Quote
corgilady Posted October 8, 2002 Posted October 8, 2002 Furthermore..... :agrue: Did you read about his male dog, Atlas? It's BLIND....is he breeding it???? He doesn't even know its bloodlines. Sheesh!!!! Quote

deepseasnake Posted October 8, 2002 Author Posted October 8, 2002 well I sent a copy of my letter and a brief explanation to, Animal Friends of the Valleys in california Quote
deepseasnake Posted October 8, 2002 Author Posted October 8, 2002 yeah you got it from the looks of it this couple is a real piece of work :drinking: Quote
Dad4duchess Posted October 9, 2002 Posted October 9, 2002 I don't think he takes good care of his dogs  Quote
Bensam Posted October 9, 2002 Posted October 9, 2002 And this guy has the nerve to put THAT on a web site!!! What hope do these dogs have if he cant see how bad it looks, surely he has looked at other sites, can anyone be that kennel blind! The puppy Dee has in the later photo her ears cropped. I know nothing about cropping, it's illegal in Aussie, but isn't it done when the pup is quite young? Also "Strangled by the chain", "died of unknown intestinal desease", sounded almost proud of this. Unbelievable!!!! Will be watching with interest to see if you can get anyone in authority to follow this up. Quote
bk_blue Posted October 9, 2002 Posted October 9, 2002 Poor Sadie, there is healthy thin and there is starving emaciated thin. She is STARVING, SICK and needs someone who will love her and feed her properly. I assume that is not the usual look for a gamebred ABPT?! I especially do not like what he says, "I had to sell her last year, I just didn't have the room for her. Someday I hope to find another like her. " He sold her because he didn't have the room and wants to get another one!?!?!?! He should not be allowed to own a dog ever again. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted October 9, 2002 Posted October 9, 2002 Didn't have room!!!! He didn't have food either apparently... Yes that is animal cruelty!!! OH that makes me mad!!!!!!!!!!! Deep keep me up to date on the email situation!! Please! Quote
deepseasnake Posted October 9, 2002 Author Posted October 9, 2002 oh man I feel all warm and fuzzy here is their response, First of all, thank you for writing and expressing your concern and especially bringing this to our attention. I am quite frankly shocked by what you forwarded. This is something that we do not condone or accept. take this from someone who has been working on the coordination of the rescue of a pit who was chained outside in the hot sun without food, water or shade. Emaciated and covered in bite wounds. Sterling is one of my favorite rescues. I love that boy. We have very strict adoption procedures and policies. I had a volunteer do a home visi t, I talked with their vet and references. I met with the family who doted on sterling and he warmed up to them fast. There were no red flags at all. I have continued to receive updates on his progress. Lovely pictures of him in his travels and lounging around his home. So this comes as a big surprise to me. I saw the website they did for him but I never looked at their other pages. I guess I should have in hindsight but I am so busy with all these dogs! (we have 5 to pick up from one shelter). Rest assured we will be investigating this. I will be sending someone over there immediately. I will certainly let you know what we find out. Thank you for your interest in our site and our dogs. We have lots of wonderful dogs looking for homes and always are in need of help and volunteers! Andrea so this is good! I'll keep you updated Quote
Rowie-the-Pooh Posted October 9, 2002 Posted October 9, 2002 Just makes u proud to be a human doesn't it????????? Quote
deepseasnake Posted October 9, 2002 Author Posted October 9, 2002 I dont give a sh!t how much one tries to fatten up a RESCUE after everything you dont go off and sell it! PRICK the other major factor for me is that they are "gamebred" and isn't it just perfect for such a person to leave multiple APBTs chained up all day and night, until fight time or what? I dont think he laid claim to every dog on that page Saide being the worst case, even if it was a true rescue the conditions that surround pups Sugar and Hottie are not excuseable by I'm too lazy or whatever else. his reply was supprisingly lacking the typical defensive comments one would expect. Which could be a good or bad thing. I think we should wait for the adoption agency to get back to me about the home inspection to see how he is. I dont know if you guys read their policy page, but they seem VERY thorough and complete so maybe this guy turned things around, but I'm not forgiving him for past atrocities no matter how turned around he is now. Maybe he is fine now but trust is alot harder to get back once lost then to earn in the first place. Quote
gooeydog Posted October 9, 2002 Posted October 9, 2002 How does he know the dogs are gamebred if they're of "unknown breeding"? Quote
Smooshie Posted October 9, 2002 Posted October 9, 2002 I agree completely, Deep.....I hope for Sterling's sake that he HAS turned himself around....but WHY leave that website up???? Lazy is NO excuse! He is displaying a gallery of obviously mistreated dogs like some kind of TROPHY :x ....and did you notice in the "stories" section??? He actually posted a shortstory about a guy who attends a dogfight....... Quote
