Guest Anonymous Posted October 4, 2002 Posted October 4, 2002 Hey everyone! My friend got a new pup last night...a 10 wk old male GSD. Now, he's doing pretty good so far, but seems to like to bite and dig at their carpet, which was new in February. Any ideas on why he's doing this and how to stop him other than NO???? Quote
Carolk9s Posted October 4, 2002 Posted October 4, 2002 Just to make sure I understand, is this ONE combined behaviour or two separate ones? I'm thinking it is one combined, is the pup focusing on just one spot of the rug or the entire rug? If just one, I'd wonder about a scent or something under the rug that is getting his attention. If it's the whole rug, either a timeout in a crate each time he does it or giving the correction (saying NO) and redirecting his attention to a toy. Perhaps a squirt gun with water would help too, he starts to dig or bite at the carpet, he gets a shot of water on his shoulder, he stops, looks around, toss him a favorite toy and say GOOD DOG! Reward the desired behaviour as soon as it happens, I'd even reward him just for stopping and looking around. If I think of anything else.... Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted October 4, 2002 Posted October 4, 2002 He'll bite at it and then dig at it. It only lasts a few seconds since they've stopped him right away. MAN he's a cutie, but what puppy isn't???? Thanks for the advise! Quote
