Smooshie Posted September 22, 2002 Posted September 22, 2002 How much are they there? (British Bulldogs)....they run about $1200 here.....although I have a friend that does Bulldog rescue and I think they only charge $200-$400 .....not even enough to cover vet expense and food. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 I just bought a beautiful Malinois. I've had her about 2 mths now. And she has been a great dog. I'm going to be going to a school in Sanford NC.(Tarheel Acadamy) To become a Dog trainer. In many diff. Areas. I'm going to go to these classes. Animal Behavorists, obediance, k-9 protection Training, tracking, and Narcotics. I'm going to be certified in all these areas. I'm only 19 but have alot of drive and confidence. This has always been my dream and have done all kinds of research. If anyone has any kind of INFO, on other training schools that i could attend. (IN THE US.) or any tips on raising my Malinois. I would love to hear them! Thanx Vicki :D Quote
courtnek Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 around here it depends on the type of work the dog has to do... they use GSD's and Rotties for the K9 force...they use labs and GSD's for the airports - drug sniffing and weapons sniffing... Of course, they use bloodhounds to search for people, as well as labs and GSD's.... I had never hear of the malimois, if it's a French dog I would say it should be pronounced MAL-eh-mwaw....but then, there's a lot of people who cant] pronounce Illinois correctly ( it's il-ih-NOY, not il-ih-NOISE....)   Quote
DogPaddle Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 Cortnek - I think we are talking about a Belgian Malinois. Right Vicki20? Looks like a GSD with a less regular coat pattern, no saddle I think, squarrer body, and maybe pointier face. They have superior obedience and work drive. Quote
courtnek Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 OH!! OH!! THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! I wasnt able to get the link up last night but it came up today...you're right DP they look like Shepherds with longer ears and pointier faces... Shame on me, I think they use some of them here.....I thought they were a different type of Shepherd but I have seen them in the K9 patrol..    Quote
courtnek Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 this just seemed to fit the thread....  It says "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the Shadow of Death, I will fear no evil....Psalm 23" Quote
DogPaddle Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 I've seen that pic before - very funny. Belgian Malinois are definately a police breed, I'm not surprised you've seen them. They are rapidly becoming the premier Shutzhund breed and are incredibly talented in obedience and very good at agility, very stable temperments and fairly low instince of HD etc, they aren't snuggly though - oh well, I guess you can't have everything. Some people probably aren't even aware of the switch from GSD to Malinois in police forces as they look very similar to someone who hasn't looked into it. Quote
courtnek Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 That picture cracks me up -    That cat looks ALOT like mine, and he is JUST arrogant enough to think he could get away with that... I have it as the background on my PC at work... Quote
