How about burring the hachet? I really want to keep my dog; it is just that that will not be possible if she does not learn to be housetrained. So, pleasssse help me.

I tried to answer all your questions, if you have others, please post them and I will try to answer a.s.a.p.

She is:

Japanese Chin,
7 1/2 months old
I have had her since May 5th
Love her very much and she likes me too.

Here is the day schedule (at least most days)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you, I will try the bell.

My dog is 7 months old as of September 5th.

She is feed in the morning after her first pee.

Potty time:

Out (in the yard) as soon as I get up.
Anywhere between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m.
Then she is feed and we play with her until around 7:00 7:30 a.m.
then I take her to the yard again for her poo about 15 min. She sometimes does not poo.

(Then it is in the crate until around 11:00 11:30) She sleeps most of the time from 8:00 to 11:00 anyway, so I don't feel guilty letting her in her crate.

I then take her out for a walk. About 30 to 40 minutes.

After that she drinks and goes back to sleep in the crate.

We go for another walk and play in the p.m. She watches TV with me and sometimes goes to sleep in my arms.

Maybe this will inform you all better and thus you might be able to give more tips on how to avoid misapps.

The only time this shcedule changes is

When I am sick
When I have to go to doctors
When I have to leave the house

At those times, since we are in summer and the temperature is very mild if not hot, she stays in the yard. (She would be able to stay in the house if she was older and clean)

REMEMBER, IF YOU NEED OTHER INFORMATION PLEASE CONTACT ME. I would not want any more misunderstandings.

SO WHEN AND WHERE IS SHE DOING HER PEE/POO IN THE HOUSE? IS IT ALWAYS IN THE SAME PLACE? DO THEY SELL "DOG BEHAVE SPRAY" IN YOUR COUNTRY? MAY BE YOU HAD A DOG BEFORE OR A VISITER DID THAT USED THE SAME PLACE. IT REALY NEEDS TO BE CLEANED WITH A STRONG DISINFECTANT, DO NOT GET ANGERY JUST PRASE AND A BIG FUSS  WHEN SHE GETS IT RIGHT

In response to your questions:

1. Water: She gets water all day except after supper when I give her ice cubes instead if she is thirsty.

2. Doors: Leaving by the same door might be a problem here. She goes in the backyard which is accessible through the patio door. We leave for our walks through the front door

3. Sure hope it does not take a whole year to potty train. You have not seen the winters here. The poor little thing will freeze. She better learn to go as soon as the door opens.

4. Where she goes in the house: Never at the same place. I clean it 3 times. Once with detergent, another time with vinegar to remove all odors, and a 3rd time to rinse. (I am going crazy here)

Another thing that I have not mentioned: We have a cat. Could this have an impact on her. The cat and dog totally ignore each other.

Hope this answers all questions. If you have others, do not hesitate

Going with Mei-Mei's Chin's are stubborn..... Does she have accidents when you leave her alone? In the crate? With someone else?

Do you take her to one general area when she goes to potty?

The only thing I would see with the cat would be a jealous thing...anybody else..??!!??

No accidents in the crate.

She usually goes by herself to a secluded area, not necessarily the same all the time (when she goes in the house)

Just an example:

This morning she woke me up while she was in her cage, I took her outside and, because it was raining (at least I think that that was the reason) she did not go. I waited for 15 minutes, then brought the cage downstairs in front of the patio door, put her in it and left her there. She will be in the cage for about 1/2 hour and then I will try again the same procedure. I am really trying for her to be housetrained. Is this an OK method?

Micheline --- has she always done this, or has she started lately not wanting to pee/poo outside?

She maybe going thru the dreaded....and I mean dreaded....terrible two's!!!!! :o

This may or may not help in any way, but here is a copy of an email that I sent to a person that had some questions about: a puppy that would not go to the bathroom outside (keep in mind that she just got him) and other housetraining tips. This tip was for a 4 month old Australian Kelpie (a herding bred dog) and not a small breed dog. Maybe there is something here that you or someone else could use. It's long, so prop your feet up and get a beverage!

In reference to outside: Pug and his sisters come in the house and snooze under the A/C. They love outside here, because that is where "their" goats and chickens are. They were borned here and know every inch of the surrounding area. They are comfortable and feel secure in their area. He is just scared to be in the back yard, especially by hisself, because he doesn't "know" it. Once he gets used to it --- he'll be okay. It's just new and scary to him. To ease his apprehension, take him to the back yard and sit with him (in a lawn chair or on the ground, whichever is most comfortable for you). Take him a watermelon rind and some toys ---- and PLAY!! He'll have fun, you'll die laughing at his silly play tactics. Most of all he'll feel more comfortable about the big scary backyard --- that he is sure is full of monsters! hahaha. Once he gets "his" smells (body odor, peepee, poop), that will make him feel better, too.

So he'll understand the housetraining rules, when you start to take him to the back yard, say, "Puggy, let's go outside, let's go outside" (the letters are capital just to show emphasis, not loudness, just talk to him in a regular voice) .... and as you are carrying him or he is following you, emphasize that you and he are going OUTSIDE. This is important for him to know the difference in OUTSIDE and INSIDE --- trust me on this. Okay, be prepared to stay outside for awhile, because he doesn't know that he CAN (is allowed) or is SUPPOSED to use the bathroom here (because this is new to him and not his regular home). When he goes --- say, "Puggy, good boy, peepee outside, peepee outside", or "puggy, good boy, poopy outside, poopy outside". I would repeat the peepee or poopy outside until he got finished, then really make a big deal that he went OUTSIDE. Clap your hands, hug him, really make him think that he just won the super bowl!!

THEN, when you start to go back INSIDE the house. Tell him, (aways call his name first so, he will know that you are talking to him), "Puggy, are you ready to go INSIDE and as you are walking in the door or carrying him in ----- continue to say, "Puggy, let's come INSIDE or GO INSIDE". Emphasize the INSIDE. This will help him to understand that OUTSIDE is peepee and INSIDE is not. Using the peepee pads --- he will never understand to go outside, he will always want to pee in the house, because it's "okay" with you to do this. Watch him and when he starts to peepee, go to him and say, "Puggy, go OUTSIDE to peepee, OUTSIDE, OUTSIDE. Let's go OUTSIDE" and take him outside to pee. Try to catch him before he pees, this is better.

His sister, Miss Kitty, knows what OUTSIDE means. It's up to me to understand when she is asking to go out. I also watch the clock, because they can only hold it about -- 3 hours. Night time is different, they usually go to bed at dark and wake up at midnight to PLAY! Then about 2 am they are back to sleep and back up at daylight!! So, to bed about 8pm, up at midnight to pee and play, back to sleep at 2 am and back up at 6am to pee. Yep, that's my night, too!! haha.
