Guest Anonymous Posted September 6, 2002 Posted September 6, 2002 My dog Shelby (Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix) will be three next month. She has some problems with being jealous of other dogs - mostly when I'm around. She is extremely protective of me, and will lay into a dog if they get anywhere near me. We have noticed this much more since we had to put our other dog (Libby - Black Lab) down last Fall. She's acting like a spoiled only-child. She loves other dogs...in fact, I think she prefers the company of other dogs than to humans sometimes. It only seems to be an issue when I'm around. We are getting a new puppy at the end of this month (Bridget - English Setter) to be our hunting dog. Any suggestions for avoiding her turning our new puppy into a submissive dog because of her "Alpha Dog" personality? Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted September 14, 2002 Posted September 14, 2002 I have always used a "play nice" command with my 2 dogs. Another thing would be to introduce them first on neutral ground like at a park or somewhere that is neither Shelby or Bridget's home ground. Let them play and get to know one another. Give each one her time with you and not let the other feel left out. I think they will do just fine but they will just have to get use to each other. :D Quote
