I too read something about Akitas biting owners or being dog aggressive. I would think it comes from them be a very dominant breed. I have meet about 10 Akitas in my neck of the woods, people seem to love the long haired breeds here in San Fran./San Jose area be it Malamutes, Huskeis, or Akitas. But back to my story, all the Akitas i have meet were very nice but also didnt like being with other breeds other than their own. Dont know if thats normal or just the way they were raised.

Actually the most likely dog to bite according to any statistical check currently available is an intact male dog that has had little socialization and little or no obedience training.

from the akita breed s tandard in the US on the www.akc.org pages

"Temperament

Alert and responsive, dignified and courageous. Aggressive toward other dogs. "

I wonder how many people bitten by an Akita were trying to break up a dog fight?

interesting thought, guest... you would think they would learn to hose them down or get a blanket... some thing other then a bare fleshy arm...

well the stats I read were breed stats not training or owner stats

I think you have a valid point about breaking up a fight however if I stuck my arm in the middle of a fight (which, I have occasionaly done  ) I wouldn't fess up to it when someone asked, then again thats just me.

I would encourage you guest, to join us in the "Akita" thread as you may be able to shed some light :)

The only akita fight I have seen was at a dog show and the handlers broke it up using folding wooden chairs :o The two dogs then went BOB and BOW with the dog on top in the fight winning best of breed and the 'underdog' taking the championship points as best of winners.
I was shocked until someone ringside explained about the breed standard for this breed.
