I have been involved with showing, judging and club administration for about 40 years, and enjoyed most of it. I have mainly shown at country venues, meeting friends and relaxing with my dogs. These country ones generally have great areas to walk the dogs and are generally two days, so no housework, cooking, etc. My dogs enjoy these weekends away, they love meeting everyone else and specially sleeping in my van with me overnight. They have all been good travellers and know when I'm packing to go away, they jump in the van and I have to pack around them. I've made some wonderful friends through my involvement with dogs. I've owned and shown Rough Collies, Afghans, Gordon Setters, Cocker Spaniels, Border Terriers and current showing Miniature Pinschers.

We just started showing. Goblin has now moved from the UL novice class to the puppy class. I can't believe what a fun time we are having! It is just the kind of family venture I was looking for and the people we are meeting have been wonderfull. I hope goblin continues to do well in the ring, and as long as he does and he enjoys it, we will be showing him and having a wonderfull time at it!

Regards,
mike.

We were going to show ours....our female was only one major away from getting her championship when we adopted her...but we never showed either of them. I guess we were just too lazy  .....Plus, we are so busy the way it is, that we would have a hard time taking the time out for showing. We might do agility for our male, though!

its funny I have never known anyone who showed their dogs and I have never heard of a dog show around here (I'm sure there are) and up until the mighty dogomania I thought everyone at the shows were snobs and english royalty....guess I was wrong

Yes Guilty
Show our dogs too,
not being snobish or anything, only really do club shows and championship shows.

I've heard there's a lot of politics in dogs shows.....

There's a lot of politics in everything - I was a member of a mother's club when my kids were at school - now there's was politics! Dog showing can be a lot of fun, as long as you know your dog's limitations and are not kennel blind. I find most times the judging is pretty good, keeping in mind that Judges, unless personally involved with a breed, will have an overall picture of any breed and will give THEIR interpretation of the Standard. If they all judged the same, there would only have to be one show!
There are a diverse range of exhibitors here in Aussie, from T.V. personalities to poor old pensioners like myself and we all enjoy our day out.

Deep there was a show just last month up your way... I think federal way or someplace around there... the breeder we got Hazel from does rat terriers as well and she has a little chocolat apropriatly names "Hershy" who did well in it! I would love to go see a good show, but as with gigi time is a major factor, plus I don't think small children are good for the mentality of a show dog!

how many of you show your dogs or consider yourselves active in the scene?

There are days I am way more involved than I planned to be
Around 30 years of showing off and on - I do better at producing nice dogs than playing 'political hairdresser' so often I simply watch my dogs careers with someone who is better at the game than I care to try and be.
I know lots of folks and have watched the show scene here do some serious changes that I don't think were so much of a plus for the game.

I might show Lily one day, the problem here is that I live so far away from any major cities that I have to travell 6 hours to get anywhere that they have 'proper' shows. Apparently they have one show here a year, I'll check it out and see what goes on and then decide if I want to show. I've been told by alot of people that they think Lily would do quite well, even ex show judges!!! :D
