Guest Anonymous Posted August 15, 2002 Posted August 15, 2002 Firstly Hi to all!!! :D Now heres the problem, well we rescued a pup 3 weeks ago (Molly) and she suffers from seperation angsiety (sp?) we have almost cured this in 2 weeks (shes an intelligent learner) Now shes 11 weeks old and pups will be pups but she will pick up sticks, twigs, dead leaves and basically anything she can get hold of (looks at undies with holes in  ) Now we don't want to discourage her inquisative nature we want her to be posativly out going. But when we say "No" in a firm tone to her she takes great pleasure in it. And tears off round our back garden with the thing in her mouth. Now I would like to stop her from doing this but she thinks it's great getting a chase. - now i don't want to chase her (thats what she wants) but I really want to get the object from her without the chase, any clues as oneday it'll be a wasp or bee. oh she also loves de-heading flowers (white and yellow are her faves) any idea how to stop that? As for breed we reckon shes a dobe cross rottie (but unsure - definatly dobe - but some rottie charateristics coming through in the face Cheers Hirsty AKA James Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 23, 2002 Posted August 23, 2002 Welcome! Here is a good commad to start with... When you get her to come on command then she should do it when called even with stuff in her mouth..(hopefully  ) I trained Jac with a 30 ft lead letting him go and saying here when he didn't respond I would gently pull him to me saying here.. When he got to me I gave him a treat and praise. Eventually they get to where they come on the first call, then with no lead. Here is a great command for any dog to know, especially if you take your dog anywhere. I think if you incorporate this with K's advice you will get your problem solved!! :D Good Luck! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 24, 2002 Posted August 24, 2002 K napisaĆ(a):Jacsmom, hope this works for older dogs too!! I could not get a 30 foot lead but I did get the longest I could find...and I am letting Bobbi walk around on it as she has not had any "formal" lead training as yet (she is 3 and a half!!) and when she gets far away I am calling her back and using hamblocks as treats as she does not like dog food! Problems I am having are...she does not respond to calling her back by name as yet so you really need to be in eye-view to get her to realise you want her and also if she gets to the extent of the lead it is really hard to use it to pull her back and it has cut my fingers already because she got startled by a loud noise and went to bolt after 1/2 the lead was out and I had to grab on for dear life to the other part (ouch!)....really is hard work I am used to dogs who do as they are asked!!!..oh well I will keep trying..on the up side I think we have got Sit and Down going well! Instant long lines can be made by purchasing the length of rope or line of your choice and a bolt snap at a local hardware store - for those who prefer nylon 'leashes' you can usually buy that material at a good fabric store by the yard around here. If you are worried about the dog bolting and you getting hurt by the dog tie one end of a long line to something solid and then step some feet forward to work the line as if it were not tied - you then have a fail safe in case the dog does bolt. If you do not want to do that to something solid then something hard to pull but moveable will work too. I would work on teaching her the command you plan to use means Goodies ;-) and then only work her BEFORE she is fed on the recall until she gets it down well. That way the treat food will be even more desireable than it would be after her meal. You can also just praise her for simply turning to look back at you and reward her for that as you work towards her coming when called. First a look and then a step and then another and then a recall - you can shape it in little bits for best success long term. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 25, 2002 Posted August 25, 2002 I think she will get it!! :D I would use her name every chance I got so that she would learn it well and soon.. Hold back on the food until after training..but I think I would let her weight get up some :( ! Or train every other other day for awhile...When jac was younger I would have to use my "Happy-happy" voice as my hubby called it. Kinda like coming here to me was better than a big juicy bone. :D It makes a difference when you are first training to me. Now I just call in a normal voice... who knows>>>> Quote
