Guest Anonymous Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 Does anyone have much experience with this type of dog, personallity, compatability with small children, health problems, feeding, grooming, size, etc. I ask because my sister in law might get one, but she is preg at the moment and worries about the baby and the dog getting along... we plan on bringing the pup over to my house to cut it's teeth, so to say, on my kids and pup. There is a "thing" though, the "breeder" is a girlfriend of a coworker of her husband... she can't seem to sell the puppies... they are "papered" and pure bred. I am going with her to see the pups sometime at the end of this month... and to check out the situation, as I am unsure as to what it is. What do you all think about this? The puppy will be fixed and used just as a pet... Quote
science_doc Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 As always I preface this note with the fact that I am a novice dog owner, but I was thinking about getting an american eskimo dog, so I did a bit of reading. From what I read they get along well with other pets and kids, but they are VERY SMART and need some entertainment all day long. I personally think that's true of all dogs anyway :P There are lots of web sites on eskies and eskie breeders if you search the net. Quote

Well if she likes high energy, stubborn (as in northern breed), barky dogs that need lots and lots of exercise and TONS of grooming and have a sense of humor they are willing to act upon  then she might do fine. If she wants a pup that will mature into a quiet housepet she might be disappointed. The breed comes in more than one size. I wonder why the breeding was done at all if the person did not have homeslined up for the pups? I also wonder if any health testing was done before the breeding was considered on the sire or dam? Bad knees problem hips temperament all come to mind as things I would want a breeder of this breed to be considering when breeding a litter and I"m sure there are more that experts in the breed could provide as things to be looking at. They are not a 'white pomeranian' in temperament or nature if that is any help to you. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 11, 2002 Posted August 11, 2002 I have only met a few, but they have always seemed pretty friendly and cute... and I have never seen one matted (I assumed it would be like a samoyed that just sheds all dirt and stuff out of coat.) I was wondering if they could be a little neurotic... as they strike me as the type... As to the breeder, this is where I get hung up, what kind of person has a hard time selling this kind of pup unless there was something wrong. I am going to go with her and investigate, the pups are only a month old by the way. Quote
