Guest roo Posted August 9, 2002 Posted August 9, 2002 K, Go to http://forum.dog-tracker.com/ You can view as a guest  Go to forum go to vets section go to H/D topic there is a really interesting article about H/D and Vit C on there  Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 9, 2002 Posted August 9, 2002 I know a breeder who gives Vit C, a childrens multi vitamin, and Garlic on food. Garlic for fleas!!! So far it works too and most of the dogs 5 are outside in an outdoor kennel coming in when weather varies. I asked several breeders and the vet when Jac was a pup if I needed to give supplements and was told no by everyone...but since his leg I am pretty sure he is going to get arthritis in it as he ages so I am thinking really hard about starting on the vitamins. However can you not overdose on Vit C?? I know children and adults can what about dogs? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 9, 2002 Posted August 9, 2002 newfiemom napisał(a):Jacsmom, I am not sure on overdosing. It is plausible. Try Glucosomine (sp) for Jac. This should help his joints when he does get older. Parents have a Bloodhound diagnosed with Hipdysplasia and they put her on Glu. and her hip has repaired itself on the right side and the left is looking 89% better!! Yeap I have thought of that!! K not sure! I do not think it would hurt! Newfie I will have to research on the overdoseing thing and get back to you!! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 9, 2002 Posted August 9, 2002 K napisał(a):oooh I was reading that advert on this site it sounded good but I was'nt sure do you think Elric would benefit from it???? You want glucosamine chondroitin and it can work wonders! I suggest if you have a dog with a serious problem you ask your vet about Adequan shots first to 'load' your dog and then use the tablets for maintenance. You do not have to purchase the priciest one to get good results either we use Sundown's product which ran 10 dollars for 60 500mg tablets to good effect on the dogs and us too :-) The vet version is pricy but the horse version can work out cheap if you have a large dog to dose so check the horse catalogs too :-) Quote

Roo  Yhe only time I use vit C on a dog is when I have nursing bitches who are easily upset by visitors - the C apparently works as a catalyst in the handling of blood levels of calcium and giving them the C calms a bitch down in about 20 minutes or so likely from the fixing of the elecrolyte levels in the blood. As for C and hip problems that was debunked 20 years or more ago (ditto fleas and garlic) Quote
ShadyLady Posted August 15, 2002 Posted August 15, 2002 We use vitamin c for most of our animal its also good for snake bites if you inject directly into animal. I also had a goat with a retained placenta who got sick and was treated with vitamin c and made a complete recovery .They also recommend it for horse that are on bute because bute thins the blood or something(sorry thats not very specific but Im not expert I just follow the teachings of a lady who has studied these things in horses and goats and they are all natural remidies) Quote
