my dog smells like dead animal and pee

My dog really smells sometimes. I know dogs are only supposed to be bathed once a month, but I have to bath him atleast once a week. I'm not sure why he smells so bad. He stays in the house 80% of the time and my house doesn't smell bad! I was trying to figure out what he smelled like and the only thing I could think of was pee with a misture of decomposing animal.... not a good smell at all. He ate some cabbage last night so he smelled like cabbage last night. It's pretty hot here so maybe that has something to do with it. Some of the smell comes from his leather collar, so I wash it often.

Any advice!? Keep in mind I live in Jamaica and can't find all the products that are in other countries. Maybe I could order something over the web.

Maybe my posts are boring compared to all the other drama going on on this site.... just trying to stay away from those topics. I really don't care about if Mary is lying or not.. we'll never know. Unless someone goes and hunts her down.

my opinon is that it is probably alot the collar since you wash it a lot. Leather smells when it gets wet. Take the collar off and smell it and see if it smells when it isn;t on the dog. Maybe thats the problem

I guess the smell of dead animal could be associated with the leather collar... since it is dead animal. The pee thing I'm not sure about b/c he doesn't pee on himself or roll around where he pees... not that I see anyway. I used leather collars before... but this was a real cheap one so maybe that makes a difference.

hopefully it is the collar and not something else. Hopefully you don't have a stinky dog. Yeah I thought the dead animal thing and leather made since.

Abusser, your posts are nothing near boring! Trust me ok! I like reading everyone posts, just sometimes all of us just get sick of the same thing or even get sick of reading every post. But to reply to your great post!

Yes you should try to order ove the net, it would be a new exsperience, especially with all the new products you could get! And with the pee smell, Does the dog have grass in the backyard or dirt?? If it is dirt, try to grow some grass and if it is grass at night water the grass so the pee goes into the ground....maybe every night.....Search the yard for reasons

And with the bad, bad, bad smell I really think you should take the cheap leather collar and throw it away and get a nylon collar. Wash the dog very well with great doggy shampoo to make the dog smell very good and then dry with a clean towel, and put the nylon collar on. I think this will solve the problem.

Good luck!

Where he is is mostly dirt and I do rinse the yard... but sometimes I notice he steps in his pee right after he pees. So I have started rinsing off his feet before he comes in the house. Is that bad for his feet? I don't use soap everytime.

He hasn't been sick for a few weeks. He had hook worms when i first got him.

An infection can smell really horrid! Are you sure your dog is well? Maybe a visit to the vet is in order.

He is fine. He doesn't smell now. Thanks for your concern. However, he does have some scabs on his head that I haven't been able to figure out. My vet said they are from parasite... fleas/ticks... but I have never seen a flea on him and I have treated him for ticks.
