Guest Anonymous Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 It seems the house next door to a friend of mine was sold after being on the market only two days. The new neighbor came over to immediately complain about my friends tiny elderly dogs barking (in their kennel area over 125 feet from the house in question) saying that he bought the house to get away from the barking dog in the townhouse he was renting. My friend did not hear the dogs barking at all and no one else seems to hear them either as the kennel is on the back of the property and the runs come off the building from the side away from the street. The new neighbors followed the personal threatening visit with a call to animal control and complained about the noise. AC came out and warned my friend that if there was another complaint she would have to go to court on it. AC officer did not hear dogs barking when she drove up or the whole time she was there and agreed that the kennel could not be closed up and the dogs kept in it humanely in this weather but its out of her hands if there is a second complaint put in. There are big dogs that bark all day on the other two sides of the new neighbor's property but my friend does not know if they have had complaints against them too. (I have a niggling wonder about whether the new people would like to try and get her land to add to theirs for some unexplained reason-no facts just an uneasy feeling over all this - wouldn't you think someone worried about barking would have checked neighbor's yards when looking at a house?) Now get this my friend is a senior citizen and terrified her dogs will be taken from her and killed. She wishes she were dead :-( She has limited mobility and no money for a lawyer and is sure the horrid new neighbor will complain until she has to go to court (in her wheelchair IF she can get someone to drive her there and push her into the courtroom). She has a heart condition and other medical issues that make stress like this a no-no. No kids and no close family or friends left in the area. She has been in her home for 44 years with 42 of them having the kennel in place and properly licensed and NEVER before any noise complaints from her neighbors. Each home in the area is on about an acre of land so they are not right on top of each other. Some days I do wish there was an open hunting season on jerks :-( Anyone got ideas on tactics or where to go for help for someone on a fixed income? While empathy is appreciated bright ideas would be wonderful! Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 I'm chock full of bright ideas, but no one would dare take them seriously. It's really ridiculous stuff, but it did work once to get some irritating neighbors to back off.... Let's see if someone can come up with anything sensible (I've never been accused of going about things with a lot of common sense). If not, as a last ditch effort, I'll share what worked for me. Guest Anonymous Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 I my GOSH! That is horrible! How could they be so mean, especially if your friend has heart conditions AND is in a wheel chair! Some ppl just have absaloutly NO hearts  I really don't have ideas but if I do ill be sure to post them! It's all in God's hands now. Quote
avaloniaboerboele Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 Oh, ive got an idea - tell him to take his sorry sour ass to hell and never come back - a little arrogance usually put theses people in place! Hope i dont sound rude, but im in a foul mood today...... Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 Pitch a tent in the yard.. Most people that have a problem with dogs will come out the door and say hush or something..have they. Or be a butt and one night stand down there and hollar their names as loud as the dogs bark to see how long it takes them to come out and get it all on camcorder..There is always cintronella collars..YUCK! For the neighbors!! Quote
sixjollydogs Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002   I would call the Animal Control folks and tell them just what you have told us. I would then talk to the folks with the loud dogs..NOT to accuse..but to get them as allies. TALK TO ALL THE NEIGHBORS. ask if they have heard any barking. Make a tape. I would them talk to this jerk...oops sorry...meant neighbor...and tell him the same thing. If he is not responsive, I would tell him that he is being harrassing..and maybe your neighbor just needs so legal advise about HIS behavior. Find out where he lived before, find out what his record was there. You might call the local media....stories about sick little ole ladies being harrassed by morons can make a good story. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THESE PEOPLE NEED TO BUY A HOUSE IN BELLE AIRE!!!! I CAN TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE NEIGHBORS WHO KEEP THERE DOGS RIGHT NEXT TO THE OTHER SIDE OF A FENCE WITH A LITTLE DOGHOUSE OR A PEN THATS NOT WELL EQUIPPED AND THE DOGS NEVER SHUT THE HELL UP BARKING AT EVERYTHING.....THIS IS WAYYYYYYYYYY DIFFERENT!!!! THE DOGS ARE TAKEN CARE OF AND WELL AWAY FROM THE PROPERTY LINE AND THEY DON'T BARK THAT OFTEN,...FROM WHAT I'VE READ. GOT GET THAT SURVELLIENCE CAMERA AND TAPE IT EVERY DAY SO YOU HAVE A RECORD OF IT. LASTLY, IT SOUNDS LIKE THESE PEOPLE ARE MAJOR PRETENTIOUS UPTIGHT STIFF UPPER-LIP A- HOLES!!! PARDON MY FRENCH BUT THATS THE ONLY WAY TO PUT IT. THERE'S ALWAYS A FEW IN EACH NEIGHBORHOOD WHO ACT LIKE THEY LIVE IN THERE OWN PRIVATE IDAHO. NEVERMIND THEM, THERE SHALLOW PEOPLE WHO ARE MOST LIKELY SELF INDULGING IDIOTS. THE QUESTION IS WHO THE HELL HAS BEEN ON THAT BLOCK OR ROAD FOR YEARS? THIS OLDER WOMAN SHOULD CALL HER NEIGHBORHOOD FRIENDS AND LET THEM KNOW WHATS GOING ON!!!! iF THEY DON'T LIKE IT THEN THEY SHOULD SELL AND GET THE HELL OUT, WITH ANY LUCK THEY'LL MOVE RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO A KENNEL AND TEACH THEM A LITTLE KARMA. Quote
sixjollydogs Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 Right on Ceptor! The pretention creep should be given some heat...LOTS of it. What kind of low life knocks on the door of an elderly lady in a wheel chair and gives her a hard time...and after just one day. What city is this...would love to call animal control there! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 I shall take the idea on the tape and see how that sits - if the funds are there to manage it that could be a big help. I feel so badly for her. She HAS talked to animal control - they came to her house with the formal complaint  and warned her in person that if the same person calls another complaint in they will have to go to court on it even though they heard nothing while they were there. Noise ordinances are like that :( I'm guessing too the new guy knows the laws well and plans to milk them and was probably a horrid neighbor in the last home too but the last neighbors gain is my friends loss. Bad thing is she is stuck with them as neighbors so she cannot get away from them. So many people in her neighborhood have passed on or moved she has no friends really left there and I'm about 4-5 hours drive away :( so not much beyond moral support. It would be all too easy for them to just keep complaining until the city told her to get rid of her dogs and I seriously think she only is living on for them. :( I suppose if she ends up in court she could get a sympathetic judge but she might get a pet hating jerk too :( I guess I shall just have to worry and wait and pass along bright ideas when they come along - thanks!
