Aroura Posted August 5, 2002 Posted August 5, 2002 Can you believe this? http://www.iamskills.com/index.shtml All those poor animals being treated as disposable items!!! US people, get on your phones and make that call! Quote
bk_blue Posted August 5, 2002 Posted August 5, 2002 Unfortunately yes, it is entirely believable. The ruthlessness of humans never ceases to amaze me... a company purportedly geared toward the betterment of pets abusing animals in the name of "research" is just another gruesome, unnecessary procedure... *sigh* Still, in some countries "pets" get eaten, and look at how foie gras is made.... :x Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 5, 2002 Posted August 5, 2002 Just wondering..... what pet food do you guys use? I USED to use Eukanuba until I read this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o :o What pet food do you reccommend? My dog is a Golden Retriever, no allergies, 6 months old. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!! Guest roo Posted August 5, 2002 Posted August 5, 2002 I am afraid this is old news over here, at crufts this year there was a protest stand outside giving out leaflets and talking about what has been happening in the testing. Dog food has to be tested in feeding trials and such, but, some of the tests that were being done are totally unjustified. I do know one of the tests they did was on a litter of danes, they reared the pups, put them down then broke the bones to see how the nutrition had affected their growth. But what breeder would even consider selling dogs, or cats to these places? :x I know at crufts a friend of mine who always rears her pups on this food was very upset and went onto the stand to find out about this testing, they responded that yes they had done this testing years ago and although unpleasant a few dogs died for the sake of thousands. But at the end of the day it is still very wrong in my opinion. Guest Anonymous Posted August 5, 2002 Posted August 5, 2002 I'm also curious to know which other companies, if any, test on animals. BK has (and enjoys) Pal Pedigree canned and dry food. If it turns out they are doing similar things to IAMS then I will switch to someone that doesn't!!! Quote
Aroura Posted August 6, 2002 Author Posted August 6, 2002 Goldenluver, I feed my dogs on a BARF diet for this reason as well as many many others. I understand that not everyone believes in it or that it is convenient for everyone, my next choice of dog food after a freash home prepared one would be supercoat, for the simple reason that it does not use ethoxyquin and that it uses meat as a prime ingredient, it is affordable and it generally sounds ok to me!!! Things like this make me sick to the stomach, obviously they are in it just for the profit, anyone who loved dogs couldnt bring themselves to do such tests. Quote

I hope this helps I have been to pedigree's Waltham centre in the UK. I have been inside and seen the dogs and the cats that are there. They do feeding trials at this place and have a lot of staff there to look after the dogs and cats. All the animals that i saw were happy well socialized, groomed, exercised. When the feeding trials are over the dogs are rehomed. They have a huge list of people waiting to rehome these dogs. The cat section was great they had big playrooms with beds, toys, ropes, in them and again all the animals looked happy. They also had a kitten room for them to play in. The cats also have a rehoming waiting list. Roo Quote
