Guest Anonymous Posted July 25, 2002 Posted July 25, 2002 Well I have done much research already on the matter and still have come up with nothing. I just keep getting the standard information, I would like to find a book that would compare the two and there I have had no luck either. I would not like to breed my pup to a red male and have the quality of the breed become weakened by certain traits being taken out that are a standard for the breed. Quote

Grey Stone: Why are you breeding in the first place? Are the intended parents herding dogs? Are they registered? Have they been OFA certified? BAER tested? Cleared for PRA? I answered you on your first post (please read it) --- The color has NOTHING to do with weakening or strengthening the breed. GENETICS does! If your "pup" is not registered with a reputable registry and the dog isn't either, then you should not breed AT ALL. Because you have no way of researching the bloodline for past genetic defects. You say, "PUP", please don't say you are considering breeding in the first heat cycle? Please don't do this, your "pup" is still growing and is still a child herself. If you are dead set on breeding, at least wait until she is 2 years old. Not trying to be rude here: but you don't know the first thing about genetics, breeding, or the Australian Cattle Dog breed. Before you embark on breeding ----- PLEASE become familar with the breed, genetics, characteristics, and all the unwanted ACD's that are currently in the animal shelters and stray on the streets. Try putting: Australian Cattle Dog in the search bar. Then just research "dog genetics" and READ! Really, I'm not trying to be mean or rude but, just by you asking the question about red/blue mating -vs- breed standard, shows that you are trying to educate yourself and I applaud you for this ---- but PLEASE don't add to the growing population of this wonderful breed in the animal shelters/humane societies/rescue organizations, etc.......
