avaloniaboerboele Posted July 19, 2002 Posted July 19, 2002 Im lucky because Boerboels need no grooming at all. I never bathe them - they are always "clean". A good shake and all the dust is off!!! Only time they get wet is when i treat for ticks and fleas. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 19, 2002 Posted July 19, 2002 Beagles and basenjis stay the cleanest of any dog I have ever seen.. I have never seen a boerboel. (the only time a beagle does not stay clean is when he runs under a car that is leaking oil to chase a cat :-? ) Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 19, 2002 Posted July 19, 2002 We only bathe when they are stinky from rolling in something in the back yard. :x We use a couple different shampoos...oatmeal, the whitening (Shibas have a lot of white on them), and we are using up the rest of the puppy shampoo from when we had a litter last September. We towel dry the best we can and lock them in the house for the rest of the night. We only bathe at night because of this. We do not use perfumes. We bathe them in our tub. Our shower head is removable so we use that to "shower" them! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 19, 2002 Posted July 19, 2002 My Dobie get a bath about once a month. His coat is really short, so just brushing him usually will do the trick. We take him to the dog park about 3/4 times per week and i thought that with all the playing he gets he would need to be bathed more. Onyx gets bathe in our bath tub with dog shampoo and gets towel dried. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 19, 2002 Posted July 19, 2002 I have a miniture pincher, also w/ short hair. I give her a bath at least one a week, w/ an oatmeal shampoo. I have not ever used any sort of perfume on her, due to she sneezez at any kind of airbourn stuff. The vet also told me that giving her bath as often as I like w/ a dog shampoo is fine, due to it is formulated not to stip thier skin of thoes esential oils. I give her a bath in the bath tub, your collie may make more of a mess, but at least he, or she will be more contained while bathing. I towl dry her as well, as I can and if it nice out (warm) I will take her out to finish drying in the sun. in the winter I do blow dry her, just to make for sure she won't freeze. Hope this helps!! Guest Anonymous Posted July 20, 2002 Posted July 20, 2002 I have 2 short-hair dogs (pit bulls) and they get a bath every other week. They are cleaned in our bathtub and let me tell you....they jump right in. They love taking baths!! They are towel dried and I use a puppy shampoo on them. And then they usually run around the house to get completely dry. I don't use any cologne...because I haven't read too much on them and I'm not sure if it's safe. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 20, 2002 Posted July 20, 2002 Newfiemom, another K9 II dryer fan here. Actually, I have the equivalent which is the Circuiteer. The only difference being that one is blue and one is brown. I also have a little Metro for lighter jobs, but love the big dryer! :D Er, back to the survey. #1) I bathe as needed... my Yorkie gets it about twice a week (he has that geeky old man skin), my female full coated Lhasa about every other week (brushed twice a week, or so), my male stripped Lhasa gets a bath monthly, my Chihuahua gets a bath about every four months, but carded out every other week, my Poodle weekly or every other week, my Schnauzer gets it monthly, or so, my Bulldogmutt gets it about quarterly and so does my Lab. #2) What I bathe with depends on which dog. My favorite general purpose for my own dogs is Plum Silky followed by ReFurbish conditioner. My allergy dogs get HyLyt, or Allergroom. #3) All of my dogs are toweled and then blown with an hv dryer. #4) Yes, I have some doggie colognes. #5) I bathe them primarily at work since I have elevated tubs and most of my equipment is there. Easier to take the dogs to work than lug all my equipment home. Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted July 20, 2002 Posted July 20, 2002 BK and our other dog, a 15 yr old GSD, get a bath about twice a year- they have hardly any doggy odour and have short coats. (though Rinny has that damn GSD undercoat that sheds EVERYWHERE!) We use Velvet soap and Pantene conditioner!! They don't react to it and never have fleas either (well, sometimes, but only in summer) They both get towel dried, but as we usually only wash them in summer, they air dry quite nicely too. And BK runs around like a maniac and rolls in the dirt straight after too. Why is it that dogs go hyper after having a bath????? No cologne- they smell sweet enough :) They get bathed outside, tied up to the clothesline and washed with warm water. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 20, 2002 Posted July 20, 2002 1. about every two weeks (unless we are going somewhere special... and she get's in the neighbors muddy mucky pond..) 2. I use oatmeal shampoo... for sensitive skin. 3. I towel dry and set loose in the sunshine... hopefully she stays away from the pond. 4. I never considered anything smelly for her, I worry about a reaction as I am very alergic to most perfumes. 5. I bath her in my shower with a detachable head... just put some shorts on and jump in.. :D _____________________________ owner of the world's laziest aussie Quote
GizmoRedNosePit Posted July 20, 2002 Posted July 20, 2002 #1 How often do you bathe your dogs? When ever she needs it, or when everyone starts saying you stink Gizmo! This is about every week! Puppy shampoo, I actually think she is allergic to it...i dunno I cant figure it out though.... #3 Do you air dry your dogs, blow dry your dogs, or towel dry them? Try to towel dry them, she grabs the towel and starts plzying tug of war with it!! #4 Do you ever buy colonge or prefumes for your dogs specially designed for dogs? Nope, Never even thought about it....to much money, waste of money washing her Every week, allmost every day! #5 Where do you bathe your dogs at? Well started off in the kitchen sink, then moved to the bath tub and now outside in her play pool! She got WAY TOO BIG for the kitchen sink!! :-? Quote
