Guest Anonymous Posted July 15, 2002 Posted July 15, 2002 We took our APBT "Goblin" to his and our first show ever and entered him in the UL novice puppy class and his first time out in the ring he won 1st place. We have been bitten by the show bug big time, all I can say is if you have never been to an APBT dog show your are missing out on a wonderfull group of people and dogs! Regards, Mike. Quote

Are you sure there are not any UKC pitbull shows out there? I know UKC is more 'present' out in the western parts of the US. Quote

You don't have to take them but its a really good idea. You can't just show up for a show. You have to get entry forms and send in a small entry fee. You need a special show chocker and show leash. Its a good idea when she is still young to play with her feet, stack her up, and pet her everywhere and open her mouth so she gets used to it. Also socalize her all the time from a very young age so she will get used to other dogs. If you have any other questions juat ask me. I don't really know what you do and do not know. :wink: Quote

We're unable to show one of my dogs cause of her bite. We knew that when we bought her from the breeder, but at that time we were only looking for a pet. Now that we've been reading a lot about the breed and all we really want to show our next pup. Both my dogs are very social so the next puppy will have plenty of company right from the start. And we always play with their paws and check their ears, teeth and mouth, stuff like that so they do get used to being handled like that. Other than the upbringing of the dog, assume that I know nothing about showing a dog.What are some of the terms that they use?I've seen the word STACKING before, but what is it and how do I do it?HELP!!!! :D :D Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted July 24, 2002 Posted July 24, 2002 Stacking or stance means to have the frount feet lined up and then the back feet lined up. Go into any breeds pics here at dogomania and look at the show pics.. see how they are stacked perfectly. I teach all my dogs how to "self stack" that means to stack on their own without me having to bend down and doing it. Also with beagles you want the "flags" (tails) up, so you can buy squeaky toys plain or covered in a fur.. rabbit fur is great for beagles! And then I hide it in my bait pouch and to get their attention I squeak it. If you have any more questions I will be more than happy to help you. :wink: Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 Ok last show was in Riverside and Goblin took One 1st place win "best novice male puppy" two 2nd places and one 4th place.........way to go Goblin!!!!!!! We are now going into the puppy class and going to be in the points race, Goblin is now 6 months old and will be competing in the 6 months- 1 yr age class. HE is looking good at 55lbs @ 6 months old but is going through that lanky puppy stage where his body can't decide if it wants to be a pit bull or a pooldle :wink: Quote

I used to show Great Danes in AKC shows, and now if I ever get the time and money again, I would love to show in the German GSD shows (schutzhund trials and conformation shows). Did you get any show pics? I'm sure everyone would LOVE to see one! Quote
