Guest Anonymous Posted June 30, 2002 Posted June 30, 2002 Does anyone know of any shows coming to Northern California? I have never been to one and would like to see one and see how the dogs are treated. Also, Im looking into getting a Cane Corso in the next year or so. I currently have Onyx(Doberman) who is just 5 months and doing great in puppy kindergarden and just recently lost Blades(Min-Pin). I hope going to a show would let me meet some Corso breeders to see the temperment of their dogs. Any help would be great. :D :) :P  Quote
Guest roo Posted July 1, 2002 Posted July 1, 2002 In the UK we have dog newspapers that come out weekly, they are Dog World and Our Dogs, the shows are in there, there must be something the same where you are, if not try to contact your Kennel Club, they will be able to tell you whats on and when around you, or is there a breed club in your area, again the kennel club should be able to tell you. Good luck, let us know how you get on. Roo  Quote
GSDmom Posted July 1, 2002 Posted July 1, 2002 Try going to the Onofrio dog shows website. They host shows all over the US and should be able to let you know when and where the shows are held. Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted July 10, 2002 Posted July 10, 2002 Hello ! It?s first post in this forum. I am from Europe, I am boxer breeder , Judge for the F.C.I. rules ! Now, I am in visit couple months in USA. I see the American boxers and I am so confuse ! What boxer I see, in Dog Show in USA it?s not same like in Europe. She?s not a working dog, it?s most companion dog ! Yes I now , A.K.C. have standards little change, but the origin of boxers it?s Germany ! The head have many inconvienences of the typical "German", and the body don?t have enough power (chest). What it?s the future of the Boxers ? Quote

Americans tend to change the dog breeds when they get them. The American Akita is way too big according to the Japanese, the sharp German breeds get mellowed out etc I've seen some fine boxers here working in Ring Sport though! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 25, 2002 Posted July 25, 2002 I have an Aussie/Ret. mix and she is an awsome dog. We have done local things around my county and few fairs and things but nothing real big, is it possible to inter a mutt into a decent size show (for agility) or are they expected to be pure breeds? B/c for agility I thought it was just one dog racing against another to beat the time before her and clear the course, not competing against there breed standards. Quote

In agility there are two show venues (at least two anyway) one is AKC and for that I think your dog must be a purebred and there is another group where your dog does not have to be purebred that does lots of shows too. Ask around at your training class - your instructor should know! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 Okay thank you so much... all of the places I have looked they all said that they must be pure but I really did not understand why... like I said the dog is not really competing against it own breed and the standards that are set for it they are competing against other dogs. But thank you again! Quote
GSDmom Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 You are right, dog breeds do change when they come to america. I have a German line GSD who is fairly nice according to SV standards (I think) and a European bred Dalmatian who everyone thinks is crossed with a pit, or rottie because he is talller and stockier with a bigger head than any dal around here. No cross though, just a well bred working dalmatian. Quote

In terms of the German dogs - the ones from there tend to be a lot sharper than the ones here - its not only conformation we change here in the US  we also tend to select for a gentler less dominant temperament in our pets. Guest Anonymous Posted July 27, 2002 Posted July 27, 2002 For help on US dog shows I always go to www.infodog.com, they have every dog show there is in the US, that where you can also get entry forms Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted August 24, 2002 Posted August 24, 2002 huh talk about changing forign dogs!!! What about USA dogs. Check out some australian shepherd sites... there are two types of dogs ASCA dogs are generally smaller, with a shorter curlier coat, a smarter temperment, not so laid back, more hyper and active... then you have AKC whos dogs are bigger, the coats are longer (saw on that looked like an afghan hound the other day his coat was so long) and alot more laid back (for an aussie anyway). It's the difference between a working dog (cattle dog) and a show dog... And I saw a Austrian german shepherd... and it was a shock! She was big and her head was magnificent!!! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 7, 2002 Posted September 7, 2002 Judge Robert, being a judge, whether FCI or AKC, I'm a bit surprised by your post and questions. I don't mean to be rude, but breed judges round the world are very familiar w/ the differences between American/Canadian, English, and German boxers. Yes, German boxers are stockier built than American bred. Quote
