Hello, I have a 4 year old AKITA and he has a problem with his eyes watering. However, the watering seems to have some acidic content and this is burning the fur around his eyes ! .. They are now quite red and sore, we have been bathing them with special wipes and cream, and this helps, but as soon as we stop, the condition returns usually with in 1-2 days. Can someone please attempt to infom me of what could be happening here ? It's not seasonal, and is not because of any plants....HELP ????

Could it be possibly be something you are washing him in? A shampoo maybe?

I would suspect allergies making the eyes water or perhaps plugged tear ducts. Food allergies as well as seasonal allergies can do it and so can allergies to household products like carpet cleaners etc
If the fur is turning red/brown that is not 'burning' its a simple chemical response to the tears soaking the fur and is pretty common in dogs with tearing problems. Many breeds with this problem have it because of lashes that grow towards the eye and irritate it. Dogs with corneal ulcers will also have eyes that water a lot from the irritation of the scratch on the eye.
My vote is its time to ask the vet about it and how to deal with it. A vet can check for corneal ulcers, can see if the tear ducts are plugged or if the dog is entropion etc. If its an underlying bacterial infection a course of antibiotic such as tetracycline might work - so off to the vet and if your local vet cannot help you ask about a referal to a specialist in eye problems.

Well - took Akita to Vet - wants to try 3 different tablets, and two creams....They have gotta be flippin kidding. After speaking with Vet - they are "basically" unsure - these tablets / creams might fix the problem....Unbfknlvable...Is this a money grab or what ? A greyhound breeder I know, said it's comon, and too keep wiping the tear / wax away, which I 've been doing on a daily basis - it's getting better - not clear but better....

Saint's have similar probs ? Yeah ? Oh well, I'm sure you have hit the nail on the head, my dogs eyes / surrounds are all but clear, just from as you say" a daily wipe ".
I tell ya what - my faith is starting to dwindle in Vets....

Well having the vet say they are unsure but that they think they have products that may help is LOTS better than the vets sadly shaking their heads and saying nothing can be done.
I'd rather a vet say something could be this or that myself. They don't have magic wands and when you present a dog with something they see could be caused by several different things - well IMO its nice when they are honest with you.
OTOH if you do not have a vet you like and trust with your pet's welfare then FIND ANOTHER VET that you can work with!
