beagle clearly stated that she did not know what the medical reason was why he gave these dogs aspirin. Her only point was that she has heard of dogs receiving aspirin before.

How did you, Guest, jumped to pano and incorrect breeding from her statement?

And who's benefit was the dialog on the use of aspirin for....were you implying the person beagle was referring to doesn't know the obvious???

Maybe these misunderstandings could be avoided if you asked some questions instead of trying to read between the lines.

g[quote name='abusser']My parents' dog has been limping and they took him to the vet. The vet said his ligament is ruptured in is knee and that he needs to have an operation that will cost around $1300 US and that he will need to be kept in the crate for 3 months after the surgury. :(

In the meantime they are suppose to keep him in the crate all the time so he doesn't damage it further. He is a Newfoundland mix and is only about 1 year old. He weighs about 70 pounds. The vet said he is in a lot of pain even though he doesn't seem to be acting like he is in pain to us... except for the limping. He actually loves to run and play with the other 2 dogs.

My sister just got married and my parents are short on cash. Is there anything they can do until they have the money to elevate the pain? We feel horible keeping him in the crate all the time. What are our options? We love him and want to help him.

Thanks! :(

Just to let everyone know...... asprin may hurt a dog but you can give buffered asprin for pain. I know this because with my last dog I did this for her arthritis and I started doing it with my collie except it didn't help. You give 5mg/pound. but it has to be BUFFERED ASPRIN... not ibuprofen, not acetominophin. This formula came from my vet. Yes, my vet! whom I've been going to for years and years. And just to let you know my last dog died of old age not because I gave her buffered asprin. I'm not trying to be snotty I'm just letting everyone know that there is a people medicine that can be used. You should ALWAYS contact your vet first though. It is of an utmost importance. Your vet needs to always know what's going on with your pet and what you are giving him.
