PETA

Here is a mean, hateful, offensive and ridiculous article which illustrates PETA's stance on 'Pit Bulls'. Please get the word out. PETA is for the destruction of all companion animals & they regularly support breed specific legislation.
Urge people to discontinue their membership & to donate their money to local animal rescue groups instead. All true animal lovers must act now. This is a well organized, well funded organization with an irrational agenda.

Some dogs are weapons - ban them
By Ingrid Newkirk

Most people have no idea that at many animal shelters across the country, any "pit bull" who comes through the front door goes out the back door in a body bag. From San Jose to Schenectady, many shelters have enacted policies requiring the automatic destruction of the huge and ever-growing number of "pits" they encounter. This news shocks and outrages the compassionate dog-lover.

Here's another shocker: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the very people who are trying to get you to denounce the killing of, chickens or the table, foxes for fur, or frogs for dissection, supports the pit bull policy, albeit with reluctance.

The pit bull's ancestor, the Staffordshire terrier, is a human concoction, bred in my native England, I'm ashamed to say, as a weapon. These dogs were designed specifically to fight other animals and kill them, for human sport. Hence the barrel chest, the thick hammer-like head, the strong jaws, the perseverance and the stamina. Pits can take down a bull weighing in at
over a thousand pounds, so a human being a tenth of that weight is
small potatoes to them.

Pit bulls are perhaps the most abused dogs on the planet. These days, they are kept for potection by almost every drug dealer and pimp in every major city and beyond. You can drive into any depressed area and see them being used as cheap burglar alarms, wearing heavy logging chains around their necks (they easily break regular collars and harnesses),attached to
a stake or metal drum or rundown doghouse without a floor and with holes in the roof.

Bored juveniles "sic" them on cats, neighbors' small dogs and even children. In the PETA office we have a file drawer chock-full of accounts of attacks in which these ill-treated dogs have torn the faces and fingers off infants and even police officers trying to serve warrants.

Today, organizing dog fights is a federal offense in this country, yet pits are still king of the ring. Humane officers and other law enforcement agents routinely break up rings in New Mexico, Massachusetts, Michigan and Florida. They confiscate dog-fighting paraphernalia, including
treadmills used to build doggie endurance and drugs used to numb pain from injuries
inflicted by opponents and to "jazz up" the dogs. They find mesh bags in which kittens, rabbits, puppies and other small prey are suspended over the dogs to encourage fighting spirit. Not uncommonly they find what's left of dogs who have lost their battles. They are not always dead.

Those who argue against the euthanasia policy for pit bull dogs are naive. One dog I know who was adopted out to a new family suddenly clamped his jaw onto the thigh of a 7-year-old boy. Two grown men had a hard time getting the dog off and the child suffered permanent nerve
damage. Tales like this abound. I have scars on my leg and arm from my own encounter with a pit.

Many are loving and will kiss on sight, but many are unpredictable. An unpredictable chihuahua is one thing, an unpredictable pit another.

People who genuinely care about dogs won't be affected by a ban on pits. They can go to the shelter and save one of the countless other breeds and lovable mutts sitting on death row through no fault of their own.

We can only stop killing pits if we stop creating new ones. Legislators, please take note.

I am outraged that they think that they can do this? And where will it stop? Pretty soon they will no longer alow bikes on the street because of how many children they hurt  . And even if they do some how manage to get pitts illeglized well that just makes them more interesting to those who like that kinda thing... and if they can't get that breed well there are alot of other bull dogs out there...they'll just use one of those...

PETA has been for the destruction of pitbulls for quite some time. I am strongly, very, very, strongly, anti-PETA. Along with having virtually no idea about what REAL american pitbull terriers are, a recent study shows the majority of PETA members don't even like animals a whole lot. Along with this, PETA is for gradually turning dogs into animals like deer or foxes--enjoyed from a distance with little to no human interaction. No, they are not advocating going into people's homes and setting thier pets free...their plan is to "wean" dogs and cats from being dependant on people until they are running wild in a "natural" state. By the way...PETA has a special savings account to cover the court costs of anyone who attacks a person or orginazation that they feel has harmed animals...they are paying the court costs of the young man who attacked and beat a college professor as he walked to his car.

I have witnessed first hand about the treatment of apbt (Pitts) for the uneducated through my life i have worked in city pounds, humane shelters, and vet clinics so these are my own expierences and of others ive spoken to.99.9% of all pitts are euthinized bacause of what they are, most are classified as pure some are mixes or reseamble one there put down also, without any evalation at all. To an extient the siezures from the police dept. i can see putting SOME of them down.BUT most of these dogs are not people agressive and with the right circumstances could be adopted. There have been instances of bites from other adopted dog breeds i.e. shephards, weimies, cockers, shih tzu, even a redbone coonhound so as you see any dog could be a bad adoption. The apbt doesnt have a chance in ----.So as far as PETA being fair, thers not.Its a back and forth argument and its not worth argueing now.So why dont we evaluate all dogs for adoption and not be prejudice it wouldnt have to be that all of them are adoptable but there could be thoes exceptions????Who knows. We never will i guess.

I see what you are saying but don't forget the other side of the adoption equation - who wants to adopt the pitbulls? - not normally the people that you would want to have them
