Guest Anonymous Posted June 18, 2002 Posted June 18, 2002 I have 2 retired Greyhounds and I know for a fact that they need their tails for balance.... the same way a cheetah uses his/hers. We go to a baseball field that is enclosed and let them loose! You can watch them use their tails for balance as they turn corners. One of my hounds came to me with a case of happy tail, we thought we had it under control for the first year and a half, but then one day she popped a vein and it wouldn't stop bleeding. We ended up amputating about 6" of her tail. It healed up fine, but does look a little silly. Both of the dogs are trained as my mobility service dogs, they have made my life so much easier and our family complete. Nancy Pinky & Drew http://www.dreamwater.org/mskitty/dogs.html Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted June 19, 2002 Posted June 19, 2002 Wonderful site and glad to know that these dogs have a 'place after the race'! I find it amazing to know that they became service dogs for you!! :D Quote

I suspect its like with naturally docked breeds - if the pup grows up without one it doesn't miss it. Quote
