Guest Anonymous Posted June 3, 2002 Posted June 3, 2002 Somebody adopted a foster puppy from me and now has a problem with her cat. The dog is about 4 months old. Since the puppy came to the house (2 days ago) the cat is hiding and does not want to eat. She is very withdrawn. I hear that cats can get that way. Does anybody have any advice? How long could that take? I know that puppies and cats can get along great and play but I am not sure how long that person will try before she will give back the dog. Thanks Quote

Thanks Best bet is to limit the pup's access to the cat's territory and make sure the cat has safety zones where pup cannot go as well as time when the cat has the house pretty much to itself (like when the pup is in bed or crated overnight or on a walk) for eating and litterbox use. You do have to give a cat time to adjust to a new animal in the house and a change in routines - they really don't like that! :-) Quote
Shannon_C Posted June 4, 2002 Posted June 4, 2002 My cats seem fine when puppies or dogs come in our home....there might be some hissing, but if left alone long enough they soon get used to it, it doesnt put them off eating or coming over for some attention. Does she pay a lot of attention to her cats ? this could well be triggering the situation ? Quote
