Guest Anonymous Posted June 3, 2002 Posted June 3, 2002 My puppy is starting to get dry spots on his elbows and a little around his backside. He is out in the backyard when i go to work and inside whenever I'm home. I live in California and its starting to get a little warm here (high 80's and low 90's) and was wondering if the heat is the cause and if adding omega oils to his food would help? Or should i take him to the vet and have him checked out? His coat doesnt look dull and he hasnt lost any energy what so ever so i dont think health related but you guys might know more about this than me. Quote

This comes from sleeping and sitting on hard surfaces IF it is simple pressure calluses and not something like ringworm <ick!> I suggest one of the outdoor beds that is made with a frame that suspends the resting surface above the ground - like a lounger for dogs :-) They make some that are weather resistant and still comforable for the dogs. Better yet have you considered putting in a dog door so that he has access to a comfy sleeping spot inside instead of being out in the heat all summer? Quote
Aroura Posted June 3, 2002 Posted June 3, 2002 Yep, sounds like bed sores to me. Is he a large breed? Best thing to do is make sure he has a nice comfy bed to sleep on and put some moisturiser, maybe vitamin e cream or something on the sores while they are healing. If he is an outdoor dog make sure he has a bed outside, aswell as inside and teach him the word 'bed' so that he knows thats where he sleeps rather than on the ground. Good luck Quote
GizmoRedNosePit Posted June 20, 2002 Posted June 20, 2002 yup, your dog is laying on a hard surface WAY TOO MUCH! Get a little/big bed for him/her....they should do fine..maybe find a moisturizing lotiuon and put it on the sores...everything should turn out good! :D Quote
