Guest Anonymous Posted May 29, 2002 Posted May 29, 2002 Hope someone can help! I have 2 brothers( same litter) Newfoundland/Lab mix dogs who are 8 years old. The one who is more Newfie is VERY mellow, the other has always been more active. I moved from a house with a large see through kennel, and took the dogs out every day for a run in an isolated acre, but the active one always liked to dig. There it wasn't a problem. Now I have a small back yard with 6 ft high wooden fence. I have put down chicken wire, spread poop around and still he digs. I have given him knuckle bones to chew, and that helps for awhile. I am trying to use a "zapper" collar to train him, but it is difficult since I work. I know digging is natural, and he is bored--- but any suggestions? Thanks! Quote

Simple solution :) make him a sandbox to dig in legally and lace it with treats for him to find - then you can control where he digs and he can have the fun exercise he needs. Sand box sand is pretty cheap and dogs love its damp feel to lie on too. Quote

As anyone who has both cats and dogs knows that just improves the sandbox for the dogs! Quote
